"Nebraska's Pelini goes over $3M in pay
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Nebraska football coach Bo Pelini is crossing the $3 million threshold in annual salary.
According to terms of Pelini's contract signed in 2012, he'll receive a $100,000 raise on Saturday. That will take his annual salary from $2.975 million to $3.075 million. Pelini is 57-24 in six seasons at Nebraska. Former athletic director Tom Osborne extended Pelini's contract through February 2018 before he retired in December 2012.
Raises were announced for two other Big Ten football coaches this week. Michigan State's Mark Dantonio will earn $3.64 million in annual compensation under a new six-year contract after being paid $1.99 million last year. Minnesota's Jerry Kill is making $2.1 million, up from $1.2 million, after having his contract extended a year."
I thought this was interesting. Pelini, a guy some speculated might be on the way out is now making over 3 million a year at Nebraska. And Mark Dantonio, a criminally underrated head coach, is making the money he should be making. The big head scratcher for me was Jerry Kill getting extended for another year with a pay raise. I understand that Minn improved a lot last year, but the guy has some major health concerns. He missed three or four games because of seizures, a couple of which happened on the sideline during games. I'm not doubting his coaching talent because he's had a lot of success at NIU and now Minn, but you have to wonder if he'll be able to be there for another year.
