With all the turmoil surrounding the WVU situation, I was thinking about whether having a coach-in-waiting is a good tactic. Franklin and Muschamp left before they could succeed the current coach. Jimbo Fisher had some success but it was a contentious situation with Bowden getting pushed out. Seems to me that the coach-in-waiting label is little more than a way to make sure guys don't leave for another job. What do you guys think?

that is what it is

if theres a guy on your staff you dont wanna lose is close to being a HC and good and the other guy is thinking about calling it quits in a few yrs it makes sense

If the head coach and the coach-in-waiting have a good relationship, it's a very useful agreement.

If you're Bill Stewart and Dana Holgorsen, not so much.

Seems the coach-in-waiting would just try to blow games in order to get the head coach fired so the coach-in-waiting can move in. I don't really see a benifit.

Everything runs in a cycle and tomorrow isn't today. I think its a bad idea for everyone involved. Let everything run it's course and make the best decision possible at the time of change.
