It is clear to me after two games against subpar defensive fronts, that our offensive line is even worse than I think most of us expected. I said we were a 5-7 team largely due to our o-line's inexperience, but that looks even tougher with our skill players dropping like flies.

If we are going to have any chance during this stretch, the coaching staff is going to have to trust Worley to throw a quick slant on a three-step drop to take the pressure off this line. And we're going to have to start throwing to the middle of the field. Otherwise, quality defensive football teams are going to bracket the sidelines and take that away.

I pray the injuries to Pearson & Wolfe aren't as bad as they looked because we're going to need those weapons to be competitive.

Bottom line, Worley better get ready to start throwing the ball 50 to 60 times a game and I think the coaches are going to have to trust him to do it.

I will say our passes need to stay within 20 yards of LOS. we can't complete a deep ball. and we do well on the short the game most of the time. Seeing something else besides bubble screens would be nice, but i still think we are in vanilla offense mode.

Coaches trusting Worley is not an issue. Worley having the confidence to trust his reads and pull it more/getting rid of the ball quick are the some of the issues.

You very well might be right, but I don't see an alternative. I think the coaches have to put their failth in him & open the playbook. I also agree we need to focus on the short to medium routes, but we have to open up the middle of the field. I understand they want to limit chances at turnovers, but read option draws & bubble screens will not keep us competitive in these upcoming games.

It's not really on Worley, the Oline is not giving him enough time in the pocket for the WRs to get open. He's been sacked/ knocked down about 10 times in 2 games against subpar defensive lines.

Maybe next week the play book will be opened up significantly. If you shoot for the moon and fail, you're still amongst the stars.

Not sure I was being negative. Simply giving my analysis as a fan of what we might need to do going forward based upon what we've seen. I have noticed the sunshine pumpers who label anything short of "GO VOLS! WE GONNA WHIP DER AZZ!" as negative, rarely support their positivity with meaningful insights though...

Are we certain they are subpar? Let's see how the rest of their season plays out. They could be the surprise of their conferences.

No way to know for sure, but I suspect their d-lines are not SEC caliber.

This.

Worley is not a quick release QB, the coaches know this, but with the o-line basically a turn stall for defenders, the existing playbook is not going to cut it. Bajakian is going to have to come up with some a scheme that attempts minimize the affects of the immediate collapse of the pocket.

OL neither turning or stalling anybody - maybe you meant turnstyle?

Worley looked really good in the first half. He was making some very very good throws. Oline is definitely the weakness.

Agree with premise of OP. I think we need to start using North and Croom more in the middle of the field. Croom is big and North is big and athletic. Mix things up a bit and get them the ball over the middle where we can utilize their sizes with relatively simple plays (let us hope!). Worley and our shortish passing game will be our strength on offensive, which is why the Pearson injury hurts. We need him.

I believe Worley is gonna be fine. He's way above last year, and he'll manage these games. If short passes it what works, do it. I don't care if they moonwalk the ball, just keepit moving .
