Charlie Strong : Sources Claimed Fired. Tom Herman as leading candidate to take over.

LSU Job: With Les Miles fired and Coach O losing to FL, that job is about to be open too. If they hire Jimbo Fisher, that might lead to FSU job opening.

Brian Kelly : He has only had one good season there. Many 8-5 seasons and now this fiasco. Not sure if he will be fired, but definitely on hot seat. He lost to Charlie Strong this season.

Mark Helfrich : He is having a disaster of a season. With Chip Kelly going 1-9 in NFL, Oregon might get its ole coach back.

Kevin Summlin : Started season on hot seat. Got his program hot and Top 10, and now is looking to salvage whatever is left. If A&M loses to LSU next week, his seat will get hotter and hotter. Might be able to save his job this year just due to the fact it is bad year to be in market for a coach. Will be on hotseat again 2017.

Gus Malzhan: Headed for 8-4 season after a mediocre 7-6 season last year. That LSU win might have saved his job early in the season but after Iron Bowl his seat will get hotter and hotter. He will probably escape too due to coaching market and all the big programs looking for coaches.

Hugh Freeze, Dan Mullen, Bret Belima : Won't be on 2016 hot seat but will be on 2017 hot seat watch. These programs have shown promise but have been inconsistent.

A lot of Mid Major programs will either fire their coaches (if bad) or have thier coaches poached by programs above (if good).
Some fired guys (Les Miles, Charlie Strong etc.) will probably quickly land somewhere. Les Miles might land a decent gig.

A lot of upcoming names like Justin Fuente might take new gigs making those jobs open.

Some of the coaches in hot seat might make a preemptive move to another program to avoid firing fiasco. Or atleast some of the hotseat coaches will have assistants flee them this year.

Not sure if UT will benefit or hurt from all this (Our assistants getting poached or us being able to land some good assistants) but overall looks like this offseason is going to be very very interesting.

Thoughts ??

Sounds mostly right to me, except Fuente isn't going anywhere. Once someone gets Herman the dominoes will start to fall, but everyone is going to want a shot at him.

Fuentes just got to VT, he ain't leaving anytime soon (and it's a decent job anyway).

Whoever lands Les Miles will have a solid coach for a while.

Disagree. He for sure won't have the level of talent he has had at LSU. Not unless he goes to Texas, and I don't see that happening. He could easily end up like Fulmer, with no major offers.

Les Miles lived in one of the biggest hot beds for talent in the USA. I'd be interested to see what he did outside of LSU before I call him a solid coach

He do a good enough job at ok st to warrant getting the LSU gig. I doubt he's on TX radar. I could see him at ND or UNC(should Fedora bolt).

I don't know how likely it is, but I'd like to see Miles take the Purdue job. It would be interesting to see how well he would do with a team he could build from the ground up.

I agree with this. Fuente could've gotten just about any open job in America last year and went to Virginia Tech. To me, that says the he values the relationship with the AD, and that he sees that particular situation as ideal for him.

VT has one of the more underrated recruiting situations in the nation. While Frank Beamer was a legend, he probably didn't fully take advantage of just how lucrative the talent is in the VA / MD / DC area. Then, add in the fact that Fuente got to keep Bud Foster and doesn't have to play in the brutal SEC, but is still in an excellent spot to content for a national title. Oh, and he also doesn't have to deal with the media scrutinizing his every move like he would at places such as Texas, major SEC programs, and major B12 programs.

Add all that up and VT looks like a dream situation for Fuente.

About the only conceivable reason he could leave is greed. Obviously, programs like Texas can pay more than VT, but the VT job is in almost every other way, a better situation for Fuente.

Fuente could easily stay at VT maybe 5 years while he continues to develop his staff and CEO skills and then jump to a SEC or B1G program later as a much more seasoned and perhaps valuable coach. We will have to see what kind of success he has but I believe he will succeed. ONLY coach that wouldn't go with him probably would be Foster but who knows if he will be coaching in 5 years

Wouldn't that be something if UNC and LSU switched coaches? I think Les takes Purdue job...no where to go but up...still a few million and retire in 3 years to the broadcast booth.

I think VT is a destination job for him. He will have the resources and support to win titles there.

That would be an excellent fit. He'd recruit well in the midwest and give the school immediate credibility. No pressure either - they are at the bottom of the barrel now. Stay 5 yrs, lift the program, and become a Purdue legend.

Hmmmm, after reading VN these past 3 or 4 days, shouldnt Butch be on the hot seat list? I mean his record last season and this season are infinitely worse than anything Dooley did.

Its amazing that you're happy about that. I guarantee you it would be far worse than anything of recent memory for the program if you fire him. 2017 class lost and an mass exodus of **current** players.

Virginia Tech based off Beamers tenure is loyal. They won't rush Fuente off quickly if he has to do a complete rebuild. Some fan bases have had so much coach turnover, do you really want to be the next to gamble for your career?
