I would imagine that Phillip Fulmer and company get more than a little bit tired of fans like us. We claim to be devoted to our beloved team, and ARE, as long as they are blowing out the rivals we love to hate. We gather on message boards and tear their game plans apart and critique everything down to the way they hold their mouths and rarely, if ever, do we just say "Thanks, guys." Thanks for showing up on sweltering hot summer days to practice plays that someone SHOULD have mastered a week ago and didn't. Thanks for being there for our kids after a tough loss and making them believe that the sun will shine again. Thanks for enduring ridicule about your weight, your play-calling and your ethics. Most of all, thanks for the experience that is Tennessee Volunteer football." We are quick to pounce on the negative and overlook the things we should be grateful for. Today I'm reversing the trend.
Thank you, Phillip Fulmer.
Thank you Randy Sanders.
Thank you John Chavis.
Thank you Trooper Taylor.
I know there are others, but I can't remember their names. I also know that the coaches won't see this and probably wouldn't care if they did. But sometimes a little gratitude is a rare commodity. No, I wasn't impressed with the way they played yesterday, but I'm thankful that they played.
I'm stepping down from my soapbox now.
