Boom. Take care of Kentucky convincingly and it sets up another epic weekend. Georgia ain’t played any quality teams yet. (Oregon has not had it together then) We should be battle harden by then. Hope Florida gives Georgia hell next week but we want Georgia to win. We want a chance at them with #1 attached to them !!!!

The Vols beat the currently 6th ranked Bama and 20th ranked LSU according to the new week 9 Coaches Poll. So, there goes that argument of the teams we beat not staying ranked. Still have games upcoming against the currently ranked 2 UGA, 17 UK and 25 USCe. To date the Vols are 3-0 against ranked teams in the Coaches Poll beating the previously ranked #1 Alabama.

Also interesting but not surprising is we are the highest ranked team in the coaches poll to have been not ranked in the season. Nobody has shot up more than us.

We are also one of only two teams that have been unranked that are now ranked in the top 10 of the coaches poll. TCU is the other. I looked at TCU’s schedule and they have a lot of opponents left that can beat them. Texas probably does.

Here’s where the teamranking.com projection puts their chances in each of the remaining games:

EE01EA45-3BDE-4913-B9B1-646DBC27F20C.jpegIf they do lose, that’s one more undefeated team to go down.

Clemson is another undefeated team. Notre Dame is their hardest opponent left according to the projection but some other teams have outside chances.

OSU and Michigan have to play each other, so at least one of them will have a loss at the end of the season. Most likely it’s Michigan to go down and they are the best chance to deal OSU a loss.

Penn State has an outside chance against OSU. Here is how the same projection model puts their games:

Ohio State:

Michigan:
787D5C65-E72C-42F2-ACF2-279F2A6C0B7D.jpegSimilarly either us or Georgia will have at least one loss. Georgia is our toughest opponent left, with Kentucky and SCAR having non-trivial but unlikely chances to deal us a loss.

Georgia’s best chance to lose is us, but they could also lose to a couple of other teams, though it is very unlikely. More projections below.

Tennessee:

Georgia:

To round out the picture since there are conference and playoff implications, I’m including Alabama’s projections as well. It looks like they can mostly coast but LSU and Ole Miss have a shot to deal them their second loss.

After yesterday, it's looking like LSU is pretty much the only chance for Bama to take another L.

I’d honestly love that since we’ve already beaten them, and it makes the fight for the west much more interesting with LSU, who we destroyed in their house, having the head to head over Bama.

After watching SC this week. I'm more concerned about playing them than UK. Tennessee is a terrible matchup for the Cats and I don't think the game will be close. SC, on the other hand, looks like a harder game than we thought.
I don't think anyone left on Tennessee's schedule has a chance of slowing their offense down aside from Georgia.

Big 10 schools shouldn't be allowed in the top 4.
They are bound and determined to get them into the playoffs for television viewer numbers.
OSU and Michigan are ranked around the top five every preseason and remain there no matter the soft schedule.. This assures one of them will be in the top four unless they stub their toes.
Normally Wisconsin is ranked right up there as well but they fell hard.
For those of you that say the early polls don't matter. Yes, yes they do. Just ask OSU.
