How would you rank the ability to recruit to UT by our candidates? Here is my list.


1. Gruden
2. Stoops
3. Strong
4. Mora Jr
5. Petrino
6. Patterson
7. Peterson
8. Golden
9. Fedora
10. Taggart

Any other former NFL HC I would put above Petrino.

Not sure about Golden, he is benefitting from being in a recruiting hotbed right now and most of his recruits are from high schools that have strong ties to miami. I agree though that Taggart should be much higher.

You have to put Petrino at the bottom of the list, not that he's a bad recruiter but he has so much baggage that will be used against him.

My top 5 would be:

1. Gruden
2. Patterson
3. Stoops
4. Peterson
5. Taggart

I think both are great recruiters/coaches, but I give the edge to Patterson for pulling recruits from the other Texas schools to a school without a long football history. Stoops also pulls from Texas, but until recently, he had the state of Oklahoma locked down since the other OK schools weren't that good. You have players who have grown up hoping to play for OK their entire life, which I just don't see for TCU.

Plus you have the old U of Texas adage - "OK has the best Texas players money can buy..." jk :)

I would agree with the Texas aspect, just think Stoops has a lot more cache nationally.

I don't think kids really know who Taggart is, he is not a big name and hasn't recruited the south for a SEC team. Peterson/Patterson I'm not sure how they would recruit great on this level. Patterson maybe because of Texas. Golden wouldn't have kids wanting to come to UT either . He is not really a hot coach as far as recruiting goes. Gruden, Stoops , Strong or another former NFL HC would be homeruns in recruiting imo.

Simple question...

How can you put Gruden at #1 on that list if he's never actually recruited anyone before?
