I saw that earlier....honestly, is there anywhere else that is more difficult to have some longevity at than miami? I know alabama has been through some guys but coker started perfect and he didn't last....I wouldn't want either job.

Totally agreed.

Miami is going to have to accept that they need to spend the gross national product of several European nations to bring their facilities up to snuff. And even then its probably going to take awhile to get that place moving in the right direction. The fans are going to hate the first 2-3 coaches coming in there now.

'bama is unrealistic in their expectations. The rest of the SEC has caught up to them and that's that. No more facing a mediocre Georgia team in 1965 to be your only competition in the SEC.

I wonder if the new ACC is more a factor in the Miami/FSU struggles than they would each like to admit. The big east wasn't nearly as deep and FSU pretty much had its way with the ACC for years. I know wake and others were much better than other years but it seems like the week to week may be playing a greater role than one would expect.

Its probably true to some degree that the ACC has improved, but I also think that FSU and UM have clearly regressed in the last 3-4 years. FSU's slide into mediocrity has been slower than Miami's, but as it stands right now they are both at about the level of South Carolina.

Thing is, South Carolina is on the way up. FSU and UM are going the wrong way.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, the University of Miami Alumni Association is proud to introduce Sacrifical Lamb Number One, Bernard Kosar."
"We've been watching with great respect the way that the University of Alabama has utilized the hiring process in order to run thier program into the ground..."

FSU and Miami cannot possibly be down for that long, unfortunately. There's just too much talent in Florida. UF can't sign EVERYBODY. Prediction: by the end of this decade, both teams will have played in the ACC championship game again, unless Miami hires a total bonehead (read: Kosar) as its coach.

The interesting question is whether Bowden will survive this whole debacle. Paterno went through this recently, of course, and then ended up in the Orange Bowl -- against FSU, even -- last year. If he hadn't been hurt, nobody'd even be talking about him quitting right now. But think about this -- Paterno went through four losing seasons out of five, and I don't think the sharks were ever circling around him quite like they are Bowden now. FSU won the ACC last year, albeit with a mediocre record, and played in a BCS bowl. And yet the pressure on Bowden is already immense.

Question for you recruiting types: how's FSU's recruiting going? How's it been the last year or two? The ACC absolutely sucks right now, so maybe FSU could just show up next year and out-talent everybody and save Bowden's job. (At least until Paterno retires and Bowden has the record and is willing to step aside, of course.)

Going after these big name guys with no experience is just another reason not to give Shannon the job. He should leave due to the insult.

see i'm more in line wht this...i am one to think that the ACC has brought FSU and Miami down, rather than the opposite.

there are really on 4 schools in the ACC right now where Footbal is TRULY important:
FSU, Miami, Va Tech and Clemson. And only one of those schools is one of the original conf. members.

the rest of the league...UNC, Duke, UVA, MD, NCSU...has always been more of a bball league and despite moderate success in football by each in the last 20 years, they've had no success in maintaining it...which is why FSU dominated that league for so long. Enter Miami, BC, Va Tech and you basically forced fed a football menatility in to a conf. that didn't really want/need it from a fan support standpoint.

Wake and GT are great stories for the ACC, but after this year, one has to ask, what is the identity of the ACC from a football standpoint?

I think it's changing somewhat...programs like NCSU and MD have made comittements to improve their football programs. UNC has just take a large step forward. And as those things are happening, one has to wonder, can Miami, with their facilities the way they are and coaching situation, rebound to be the elite team we all remember, and can/will FSU be able to get over the Bowden hump? cause they aren't going to force him out....you don't fire a guy that has his staue in front of the stadium.

to me, i think FSU and Miami will still be competitive, but i don't see either one coming back to the elite status they're used to. I think Va Tech is in the best position to take control of the conf, with teams like UNC, NCSU, MD, GT, Clemson being the meat of the conf.

one last point...for so long all the programs have used the Miami and FSU game as a barometer of where they are as a program....with those two obviously down, who do you now measure yourself against in the ACC? Wake? GT? Clemson? VT?

in the SEC...you get 5-6 chances a year to measure your program....between TN, ARK, UF, Auburn, LSU, etc....you get a new baramoter each week.

who in the ACC is the standard bearer now??????
