Im pretty mad about what i just saw. Lets be honest. We just watched Auburn run the read option almost every play and beat us (badly). I understand there are variations of the read option but you can only do so much with it.

So my question is, is our team truly that depleted and have that poor of quality or did Jancek and the defensive coordinators drop the ball on this one?

I personally think its a little of both, but the coaches muffed this one pretty badly. If a pitcher throws a fastball every single time you're gonna start teeing off. If a basketball team runs a pick-and-roll every time youre gonna catch on. You cant just let a team beat you with the same play over and over.

What say you VolNation? Players, coaches, or both?

Why another thread? Look around there are polls and plenty of stupid threads regarding this.

Players mostly and the coaches not used to the sec. Give them a couple of years to get their guys in and we will be ok.

Bull. Speed isn't there but effort isn't either. We're taking horrible angles....and let me stress HORRIBLE angles 10 games into the year. Coaching is pitiful on the defensive side of the ball.

I agree. You cant tell me you cant defend a team thats running the same play every time.

There is No doubt in My Mind that this staff would loose with Alabama's Players! I don't think we have the right staff to get to where we need to be!

1) Most of the current starters are a just not SEC level talent
2) Depth is non-existant
3) Speed differential is obvious enough that my wife even notices it.
4) It will take 2-3 recruiting classes at all positions in the top 10 before we compete for SEC championships.

Just my two cents worth...

At least now, we know how the read option is played to perfection.

I bet we switch to pictures next year for play calling. Kate Upton would be a good one to distract the defense with.

Auburn ran the read option almost ever single play. They passed the ball 7 times.. We couldnt stop a team running the same play over and over? Coaching.

Without speed to catch them, angles are irrelevant. We need faster players that can tackle. Purely a talent deficiency.

I'd say it's a little bit of both. If Chaney were still here (I'm glad he's not), we would probably feel better about things because the offense wouldn't be struggling as much. That being said, I look forward to seeing this offense one everyone gets acclimated. There are a whole lot of creative things you can do with this type of offense.

I don't think Jancek is a lost cause either. With some speed and talent on defense, I think he can do okay. I mean, Brent Brewer, Jaron Toney, Justin Coleman, Max Arnold, etc. have been getting good amounts of playing time this year. These aren't SEC caliber defensive players. Plus, next year, we should get Maggitt and Riyahd Jones back.

I hate to have to be patient. Lord knows we've been waiting long enough. But, it's just a reality that we have to. We've seen close to the same attrition and talent deficiency that harsh NCAA sanctions can bring.

Coaches coach and players make plays.

Unfortunately for us, our defensive players had a hard time with that today. How do you know they are doing what they are coached to do?

I've never seen a defense whose d-line gives up their gap responsibilities and lose contain more than ours. You'll never convince me that they are coached to do this.

This is a little random but did you see that they put Riyahd Jones in there at the end? You think he'll play quite a bit the last two games? I thought they were trying to redshirt him.

Lol. Just because they run a read option every play doesn't mean they are running the same play.

What a great idea..let's hire another DC  I remember when people used to call for John Chavis to be fired every week...yeah he's terrible. Point is we've had 5 different DC's in 5 yrs with different schemes/recruits etc...verdict is still out on Janeck but we need some stability and to recruit team speed...

If he can play nickel then I'd like to see him in there. Better speed than the other two playing that position.

I didn't see that. I'm curious to know what his situation is now.

I never said to fire Jancek. Check again.

I know there are variations of the read option but how cute can you get with it when you run it 40 times? I just feel like the scheme on defense struggled today. To me, its just mind-boggling that we cant stop that when thats all they did. I know depth is an issue but dang..
