The situation at Tenn is as bad as going through major NCAA sanctions. Look at the top players we've lost during every coaching change. Our classes are nowhere near what they were originally rated.
And the bigger problem than that is our players trying to learn new coaching styles and a new playbook constantly. You look at the teams we've played and they all have coaches that have retained their classes and taught their systems to the same players year after year.

Fourth coach in 5 years is never good.

This was always going to be a few years in the making.

This is what has so impressed me by the Vtech coaches. Beemer (sp?) has been there since Bush senior was president as have many of his assistants. He rarely recruits in the top 15 but he consistently puts a quality team on the field and they generally go bowling. Coaching consistency is right up there with the number of 5* players you have on your team as it pertains to sustainable success on the field.

Right now UT resembles an old building that routinely has a restaurant occupying it. Unfortunately, we've had 4 restaurants in the past 5 years - and the food is not good to slightly below average.

Dude you said a whole lot there. Go back a look at the 2012 recruiting class and see how many player from that class aren't at UT anymore. Before we are competing at a high level again we will have to wait until this current freshman class is at least juniors. We need to focus on just making a bowl for the next couple of years.

Another example of consistency wins ball games. The offsides penalties that killed our drives was a direct result of having a new quarterback in the game that our O line wasn't used to. The players have to know exactly what the other is going to do before it happens. We can't anticipate anything because we are always second guessing what were supposed to be doing.

There's gonna be some more coaching turn over if there's not a drastic turn around by year three. :twocents:
CBJ did say ''I'm not here to make excuses'' on his show today, encouraging words.

You have hit the nail right on the head! That is why I don't understand why people ***** about what is going on. We have how many different coaches and coordinators over the last 5 years? I mean JC be a little patient people!!

We should have no change in the staff this year

Exactly and we should also start seeing our players totally understand their system and not let receivers release deep and the safety wrongly take the short route. This has happened to us multiple times this year. If we can't run a zone defense then go man.

Growing pains, growing pains, that's where we are now. CBJ and the team are playing hard but our speed positions leave us at a huge disadvantage on offense and defense. Overall our speed is not SEC caliber, but I think the desire to win is. I would like to see the O-line live up to expectations, they are hurting the team. We lost all our offense last year and didn't have a defense to lose. The team's effort has improved and with this year of getting CBJ under their belt, it sure can get exiting for us next year,:D

Add to the fact that Kiffin couldn't have cared less about anything the year he was here & Dooley didn't know a thing about what was going on or what to do for 3 years so it's almost like Jones & Co had to start from square one. We'll get there.

fulmer was the last coach at tennessee before butch. phil may have gotten complacent and developed a sense of entitlement, but he at least knew what the hell he was doing. kiffen was all smoke and mirrors. dooley? well, he lived down to his resume. for those who like to throw numbers around, like 4 coaches in 5 years!, you need to settle down. really, its been 2 coaches in 5 years with a four year hiatus in between.

This is one of the few threads on this site that are spot on and make sense. No bashing, just plain truth.

This season has always been about winning six games and going to a bowl. That is still the goal and we have the opponents to barely make it. We need both lines to show up and play some football this Saturday.

Another factor with the consistently better teams is that they have a good ratio of seniors and even redshirt seniors. Most of the 5th year guys are not the 5 or even 4 stars, but have had most of their years in the same system with the same coaches and time in the college level S&C program. If they are not starters, they are good dependable backups who can go on the road and not be affected by hostile crowds. With these teams you can let your 5 star freshmen come in and make plays around the steady influence of the veterans.

With the poor recruiting, coaching changes and attrition of the past 5 years, the Vols are just the opposite of this condition. It is going to take another at least 2 to 3 years, or more, to get back to championships. Not what many want to hear, but they will be sorely disappointed if they expect anything else.

The Southern Cal coaching search [ unlimited $$$] will start a domino effect that will affect many programs. Wonder if ours will be one.

Three coaching searches, the Gruden hype, the Strong fiasco, the Gundy thread, the Dooley experience, Clawson experiment, kiffin departure, The highly criticized Chavis 3rd and long departure, Monte also, with uncle Ed, the Fulmer power train, the Kippy Brown plane trip, Baggets departure, Sal's defense, Sirmon and Wilcox, Thompson's departure and the list goes on and on.

Jay Graham's departure, Tee Martins rejection, Pittman's departure, Dooley bringing Terry Joseph to Coach DBs, another DB coach, Dooley's recruiting coordinator, face it nobody wanted Cut but he may have been a decent holdover until we found some else. OL coach I missed, plus the NCAA breathing down our necks.

No wonder Vol fans are confused. Sad but true.

We have meet our enemy and it is us. Add to it contractual agreements, and a drain on the financial coffers of the AD by the Administration along with supporters holding back.
