So Colin Cowherd did a segment on top 10 coaches in the B1G/SEC to try and prove a point that the SEC is overrated. Good lord, this list.

10. Mike Reilly, Nebraska
9.
8. Bret Beilema, Arkansas
7. Pat Fitzgerald, Northwestern
6. Kevin Sumlin, TAMU
5. Kirk Ferentz, Iowa
4. Mark Dantonio, MSU
3. Jim Harbaugh, Michigan
2. Nick Saban, Alabama
1. Urban Meyer, OSU

Oh lord. How the script has flipped since he left ESPN. It seems like he now takes a chance to take a shot at the SEC whenever he possibly can.

To me, this list is ridiculous. Pat Fitzgerald? He has had one big season at Northwestern and now he is a top coach. The same guy who got shellacked by Butch in the bowl game, and then started this season in mediocrity by losing to Western Michigan and a few other less opponents.

And what the hell has Bielema done that makes him so special? I still have criticisms of Butch, but so far he has had the better showing of the two minus the head to head.

Does anyone fully agree with this list?

Probably no coincidence that his new home, Fox Sports, is the home to B10 and B12 games.

So Butch routs both Northwestern and Iowa. Yet is not even mentioned. Meyer over Saban? These two facts say everything about this list.

Cowherd has a history of blistering Iowa over their puny scheduling. I'm surprised to see Ferentz on here.

He is also typically pretty kind to the SEC. It is impressive that the Big10 has Harbaugh and Meyer. Choosing between Saban and Meyer is tough. Harbaugh will be #1 in 5 years.

I actually agree with most of this list . The SEC is way overrated . Pat wins games with far less talent then most in the SEC . Same for Kirk Fretz . I don't think dantonio should be that high and Hugh Freeze should be on that list

I think the top 4 is right, except Saban is #1. I think 5-10 is completely up in the air. Hugh Freeze could belong in there, Butch could too for that matter. The disparity though is troubling.

did he say the SEC or the SEC coaches was over rated? if coaches you have a debate, but Talent the SEC destroyes the 10 and every other conference.

I agree about the top 4, with Saban being the clear #1 and Meyer should be the clear #2. One thing I think lends some credence to his list is the fact that there has not been as much transition in the B1G as there has been in the SEC, so with the exception of Saban and Mullens, I believe no other coach has been in the SEC for more than 5 years (at least at their current job), and that is Freeze. Pretty much everyone else has been at their current position 4 years or less, so hard to really assess them. A lot of these SEC coaches have had success elsewhere - Beliema in the B1G, Butch in the MAC and Big East, etc., but that doesn't mean they will have great success in the SEC. Both of the 2 latter coaches had rebuilding projects and are really just now playing with mostly their own players, so we are now at the point we can look at them, so I would say Pat Fitzgerald being on that list over Butch is a joke. Granted Northwestern upset Stanford last season, but they also got blown off the field by the other 3 ranked teams they faced last season - Iowa, Michigan, and UT - and they have been pretty weak so far this season with losses to Western Michigan and Illinois St. How that gets you on Cowherd's top 10 list is beyond me.
