For those of you that can't take it that college football is over, good news, you still have some annual all-star/NFL preview games you can watch while you wait for spring practice. Here is the schedule:

East-West Shrine Bowl - January 23, 2016 4:00 PM ET - NFL Network.

NFLPA Collegiate Bowl - January 23, 2016 6:00 PM ET - ESPN2.

Senior Bowl - January 30, 2016 2:30 PM ET - NFL Network.

There may be some more lesser known ones going on, but these are the 3 main ones and the only ones that I know of that are nationally televised.

Are these bowls taking a hit as well with players opting out?

Remember the old Blue-Gray game? What happened to that?

Lost their sponsor in Kelly Tire. Kelly was a sub of Goodyear until 2000? when it was finally merge with Goodyear. No other takers.

I think the proliferation of bowl games really hurt it. It was on Christmas Day, and when half of the teams in CFB started making bowls, guys would rather play in their team's bowl game than in that game. I remember watching it as a kid and basically all of the players were from bad teams who didn't make bowls. Then according to Wiki they lost a title sponsor, then a TV sponsor, and the game folded. I think it just lost entertainment value over time.

It's also funny to think about how the wokes would view the game today.

I had looked at the "list of all-star games" and there are very many defunct ones. Way more than I realized. There are no less than 25 all-star games listed with 4 active in FBS and 2 active in FCS. The Chicago all-star game (in which the college all stars played the NFL champions) counts in there, and that was one that was played for many years, like the Blue-Gray was. We had another thread on that, and I was surprised to see in the history that the college all-stars won it regularly up to a point in time about where the NFL became big (lucrative) business. Last played in 1976.

anyway, I don't see how you have room in the universe for 4 FBS all-star games, so the competition definitely didn't help it.

Epic 7 year bump

Next Level for sure.

Anyone else remember the college all-stars vs the Super Bowl champs? IIRC, one year the college kids beat the pros. Never happen these days, but it would be a cool game to see.

As I mentioned above, the college students actually won it regularly (9 times and tied twice). Mostly when NFL players didn't make much money. it is remarkable that they played the CHAMPION NFL team. Seems crazy but it worked out pretty well.

Anyway, history here. I don't remember any of it.

Oops, sorry. TBH, I didn’t read the guts of your post past the blue gray stuff. I had no idea they had won 9 of those. Crazy.

Unfortunately since the pros draft more on metrics (height, weight, 40 time, bench press reps, how quick is your release) rather than game performance these players are better off spending the time in a gym (or taking supplements) so they can impress on pro day than getting coached up and showing out in an all star game
