College Hoops Around The Country [TN opponents, RPI, others]

Terrible week ahead for college basketball leading up to a big weekend. Memphis/Bama tomorrow night is literally it.

Who’s a Vol fan to root for? We play both teams once. If we want Memphis to remain a Q1 game then we’d probably want them to win.

I don't think it will matter much in the long run if Memphis were to win. I'd say a win over a likely Top 3 Alabama team (by the time we play them) would look better than an unranked Memphis and a Top-10 or 15 Alabama.

I guess rankings are really just optics at the end of the day, but I feel like the optics do matter since so much of the seeding is based on "the eye test" from a flawed committee.

It looks better but in terms of quadrants which the committee supposedly leans on wouldn’t make any difference if they’re top 3 or top 10 or top 20.

Some CBB News & Tidbits from 12/14:

* Kansas and Indiana have agreed to a home-and-home college basketball series that will begin next season, it was announced Tuesday.
The first matchup will take place Dec. 17, 2022, in Lawrence, Kansas. The return game is set for Dec. 16, 2023, in Bloomington, Indiana.

* Basketball great "Pistol" Pete Maravich's college letterman jacket sold for nearly $117,000 at an auction over the weekend, more than 50 years after his record-setting career at Louisiana State University.

* A stat-keeping error that impacted the final score and point spread of a mid-major college basketball game Saturday was spotted by bettors, prompting some sportsbooks to pay out winning wagers on both teams.
The mistake occurred late in the second half of the Illinois State-Chicago State game. A made free throw by Illinois State's Josiah Strong with 49 seconds to play was erroneously recorded as a miss. Illinois State, a 9.5 or 10-point favorite at most sportsbooks, went on to win by nine -- 80-71 -- without the made free throw counting.

* Louisville deputy athletic director Josh Heird has been appointed as interim AD to replace Vince Tyra, who resigned last Thursday after four years.

[Gattis] Expecting a Nebraska basketball recruiting violations piece from USA Today at some point this week. Looks like Abdelmassih and possibly Hoiberg could be done at NU

My hatred for both of these teams will not allow me to “root” for one over the other. I’ll just be satisfied seeing one of them lose.
GBO!!
