All they are doing when they go add tenths of seconds to the game clock at the end is making the game longer than it should be...and I mean that literally. I mean, if there's a noticeable draining of the clock after the whistle, it absolutely needs to be corrected. But it takes a fraction of a second to start and stop the clock after the ball is touched in or a whistle happens. That's just how it is. And they're not going back and reviewing all the inbounds plays and subtracting 0.2 seconds that should be gone because it took a beat for the clock to start. So all they're doing is making the game longer than 40 minutes! It's absurd!
And especially absurd was last night and our game at UK, where they seemed to reset the clock to where first contact occurred and not when the foul was called. That's not how it works at all!
Go back to the end of OT in the Purdue game, where Alexander traveled celebrating before the clock actually expired. But even though the travel occurred before the clock expired, the official didn't call it until after, meaning he couldn't go back and add time.
How then can you give teams the time from when the first contact occurred and not when the foul was actually called?
