On the road in Boulder, Colorado at 2:00pmET(FS1). Never an easy place to play and all we can do is hope the Vols show up and put together a solid team effort, along with hitting some shots.
Colorado coming off a tough game @UCLA where they were down double digits at half 39-23 and came back to make it a decently close game, even outscoring UCLA in the second half, until UCLA eventually pulled away for a twelve point win 73-61.
Colorado plays the same style of play they played last year when we got them at home. Against UCLA and Stanford, Colorado had 66 possessions. Based off watching the Stanford game, Colorado will allow us some drives to the rim and that's something Chandler can capitalize on for himself and getting good looks for his team mates. Now to talk about Colorado and their roster. I'm going to include offensive rating (ORtg). Offensive rating is essentially how efficient the player is on the offensive side of the floor. I'll also post their full rotation as usual. All numbers from KenPom.
Elijah Parquet (6'4" 175) 73% of minutes (ORtg 105.6)
Jabari Walker (6'9" 215) 70.6% of minutes (ORtg 110.6)
Keeshawn Barthelemy (6-2 171) 69.4% of minutes (ORtg 115.7) 448th in the country
Tristan De Silva (6'10" 217) 64.2% of minutes (ORtg 108.9)
Evan Battey (6'8" 259) 60.9% of minutes (ORtg 123.0) 219th in the country
Nique Clifford (6'6" 191) 53.3% of minutes (ORtg 113.2)
KJ Simpsom (6'2" 177) 47.3% of minutes (ORtg 98.5)
Colorado starting 5 consists of:
PG KJ Simpson
SG Elijah Parquet
SF Tristan De Silva
PF Jabari Walker
C Evan Battey
Battey is a big that has a pretty nice outside shot, shooting 8-12 (66%) on the season. He's also a big body that rebounds the ball pretty well, especially on the offensive side of the floor. It will be a must to keep him from getting hot from 3 and from getting on the glass offensively.
Barthelemy is what I would call their most efficient outside shooter and he gets the most 3 point attempts on their team shooting 11-24 (46%) on the season good enough for 157th in CBB.
KJ Simpson is a quick freshman guard that passes the ball quite well (assist rate of 23.7 265th in CBB) the matchup between he and Chandler should be quite a fun battle to watch. Preferably with Chandler winning the battle between the two.
Tristan De Silva is tall rangy SF that has some really good athleticism on both ends of the floor. Though he's not much of a 3 point shooter (4-16 on the season) he does get to the rim pretty well. Boyle may look to post him up against our smaller SFs similar to Villanova.
Elijah Parquet is kind of the leader of the Colorado squad, a gritty hardnosed Senior that has a knack for getting to the FT line and oddly leads the team in blocks (?).
Jabari Walker is the best player on the team and he's a really good player all around. He doesn't shoot the ball well from 3 (7-24 on the season) but he's really good at getting good looks in the paint and is VERY good at getting to the FT line. He's shot 48 FTs in 8 games so far this season so it will be nice if our bigs can defend him without fouling and allowing him to get easy shots at the line.
Colorado is one of the best teams in the country at getting to the FT line. Keeping out of foul trouble and keeping them off the line will be one of the most important keys for us to go on the road and get the win tomorrow. VIllanova and UNC both have the best offenses we've faced this season but Colorado is definitely third among the teams we've played so far this year. Not only that, but this game is on the road after a long flight. If Tennessee plays their game tomorrow, I don't see us losing, but this is one of the trickiest games on schedule after having five days off and having to fly across the country to play a quality opponent.
As I stated earlier in the post, Colorado allowed Stanford some good driving lanes most the game. If we can attack the basket and not settle for the 3 ball I think this is a game Tennessee wins. Colorado doesn't have an elite defense but I'm expecting them to be locked in and ready to go against a top 15 team. As long as our guys can stay out of foul trouble and keep Colorado from getting easy points at the line my prediction is Tennessee wins. We have to keep Barthelemy from getting hot because he is going to get his shots from deep. As long as we share the ball and shoot 35-40% from 3 we shouldn't drop this game on the way to having a HUGE match up with Texas Tech and MSG in front of the whole country.
Final Prediction: Tennessee 77 Colorado 70
