Peterson decision to be announced Monday
By Staff reports
March 10, 2005

ATLANTA — Monday will be the day for an announcement on basketball coach Buzz Peterson's future, Tennessee athletic director Mike Hamilton indicated Thursday at the SEC tournament.

Hamilton said no announcement would come before the conclusion of the tournament on Sunday and indicated Monday would be the probable date to make public his decision on whether or not to bring back Peterson as coach of the Vols next season.

Go. Go. Go.

I think Buzz is a good guy and I like him but a change must be made.

I think the win over Arkie and a strong performance against Kentucky tonight may give Hamilton second thoughts on canning Buzz.

Yep, I have thought long and hard about the Buzz issue and I am torn. I have said in the past that I would like him to go, but I am also interested in seeing how the team does once we get some better talent. That is not a knock on the players we have now, we just need 3 or 4 good players.

So I would be OK with one more year for Buzz. If he has another bad year, it's not like we aren't used to it. So let's see who he brings in and how they play for him. Lofton is a good start!

I think with last nites win he is back for another year, and if we play good 2nite he is 4sure coming back. We have a few guys coming in next year that just might make the difference.

I think this is all for show and he was never in any danger. But who knows?

GaVol, I agree. Given the fact that Pat Summit has publicly stated she is in his corner, he's staying. Pat's comment would help take some pressure off of Hamilton. I suspect there was some orchestration there.

If Buzz stays, odds are we keep Tyler Smith and get Jamont Gordon. Quite frankly, other than the fact that I like Buzz, that seals the deal for me. Get those 2 kids and see what happens down the road.

If Scooter and Crump had played all season like they played last night, we wouldn't even be having this conversation.

Unless there is a clear strategy on a replacement, and I don't believe there is, Buzz should stay.

He's a class act who should be given a couple of more years.

Do we really want the UT BB program to become a 3 to 4 year revolving door like the Vandy Football program?

There's no headliner out there who wants the job.

If you pay enough money a headliner will come, that being said I say wait 1 more year so we dont lose tyler he is the real deal.

I think Buzz is a great guy, I am not sold yet on his ability to coach in the SEC, but I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for the next two years. By this time he should have had ample opportunity to prove himself. I think even Wade Houston was given at least 5 seasons at UT. So should Buzz.
