I really want to take the family to the Orange and White game. I've been checking the school website for pre-game events. However, UTsports.com only has info for the 2012 Orange and White game.

UTSPORTS.COM - University of Tennessee Athletics - Football.

Today I finally called the athletic department to find out if there will be autographs, will fans be allowed on the field and what other events there may be. The athletic dept said, that "plans have not been finalized and they are waiting to get word from the coach about what will be happening." Come on Man! I'm gonna drive 300 miles one way with two toddlers. Is it to much to ask to get a little info beforehand? Put some info up on the website!

The UT Marketing Dept has really dropped the ball this year. I hear more on 1 twitter page about the O&W Game than I have all year from them! #pitiful

With all the injuries and lame ducks falling out of the sky, it may not be too much fun to watch

It's the spring game, and is basically a extremely hyped up practice. The game itself is rarely a lot of fun to watch. It is however a good opportunity to go down to the stadium even though football season is nowhere close, and fit people with young kids to bring then down and enjoy the relaxed environment.

Which is why I don't understand why people get bent out of shape about it's promotion or even what happens in the game itself. It's practice, idiots.

I agree that it's practice and really nothing should be taken from the game....which we know it will be broken down to the "Nth" degree on here and there will emerge a new All-American candidate no one has ever heard of before.

Anyway, with the family atmosphere Jones is bringing I think UT should have done more to promote this. Instead of just the O&W game, why not make it an event with a concert, etc.

After all, this is the last football until August.

I'm not sure how much "juice" sites like Volnation have with the UTAD, but the fans on here have been talking about the O&W game for a while now.

If I were in the UTAD I would look at the boards for O&W related threads and read them. See where people are coming from and how many people they're bringing.

UT has had 3 straight losing seasons and if people are willing to travel several hours and several hundreds of miles to watch a stupid spring game then the Athletic Dept needs to step up.

Announcing the "plans" yesterday is a joke. Hell, they could have written those plans on a Post It note.

I don't think it's much different than any other year. Some people just enjoy coming back for the game, regardless of how awful the team has been recently. What exactly do you mean by step up? The AD has been falling ass-backwards in the money the last few years, so I don't really see that spending a ton of it hyping meaningless spring scrimmage as a wise investment. They're already letting people in for free, and giving fans the opportunity to get walk around on the field, get autographs and take photos. That seems like a decent offer IMO.

If all the attendees were simply walking across the street I would agree with you. Butch Jones is creating enthusiasm much like Pearl did with the basketball team. Capitalizing on that enthusiasm with the fans will pay dividends down the road.

UT is going to struggle this season...just look at the schedule. However, if we're all in this together...fans, alumni, former players, coaches, etc. it makes it worth fighting for and will buy Jones time to get a few recruiting classes in here to see what he can truly do.

If the fan base is enthusiastic enough to drive from Nashville, Memphis, Atlanta, Charleston, Ohio, etc. then the UTAD needs to recognize that as belief in the program.

Their actions further confirm their disconnect with the fans and those empty shiny metal bleachers during actual games reflect that.

So you want them to spend money they don't have and likely not see any benefit in terms of larger attendance?

You're getting worked up over nothing. There's no reason to hype up a glorified scrimmage beyond what they do. None. Zero. Zilch. Paying someone to play a concert would be a tremendous waste of resources for no reason.

If there's decent-to-good attendance this year, your little rant about a disconnect between the AD and fans just looks more asinine than it already does. You're basically *****ing about not getting your money's worth out of a free event.

Let's see, a majority of this fan base was pissed that UT didn't offer Gruden $10 Million a year to coach the Vols. ...the same $10 Mill the university doesn't have.

My "little rant" won't be realized during the O&W game but during the season. In case you haven't noticed, tickets are pretty cheap on the streets before games....even big games. And there a ton of unsold season tickets.

The investment I'm referring to will be seen as child's play when 60,000 people show up for South Alabama or whatever team UT plays after UF and the "boo birds" make their presence known.

I think UT missed the boat in capitalizing on Butch's enthusiasm. That's all.

Feel free to feel different. Check back with me on 9/29/13. We'll compare notes.

So you think a springtime event, six months before the season, will set the tone for the year? That's beyond absurd. If you think frustration in the fall relates at all to this game, you're beyond help. If it was so important, do you think a school that's actually been winning recently would cancel their game?

You're reaching...The action on the field is pretty useless. Hell, last year there were people on here pushing Jacob Carter for the Heisman.

What I'm saying is that if fans are willing to travel for a useless spring game with the Sh&t that's been put on the field for a half a decade then the UTAD needs to capitalize on this and possibly sell some season tickets and at a minimum further tie into the energy Butch is bringing to the team.

Was anyone sad to see Dooley go? Not really. Why? He's an *******...and a losing ******* at that.

UT football needs someone to rally around. Butch seems willing to burden that load. That's all.

Or we could go with this plan, which was floated by one poster a few months ago.

Look, folks, this is serious business. We need to get this done. I have a few suggestions for Coach Jones for the O&W game. 1 Have alternate unis and a fan vote on what special uni to wear this year vs Ore or Bammer. This could become a tradition, with artists contributing to the publicity for UT. 2 Free food for all. Self-explanatory. Feed them and they will come. 3 Free shirts. Make 100,000 shirts of the same Big Orange for everyone to wear and keep. 4 Offer rides for Vols from the outlying areas. I live in Jamestown or I`d have season tickets. Some fans, like moi, have no license, car,or much gas& money.5 Give away 500 season tickets and 1000 tickets to the UGA and SoCar games. MAKE EVERYTHING AS FREE AS POSSIBLE AND GIVE A LOT OF STUFF AWAY. WE NEED TO START NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!SERIOUSLY,VOLNATION! WE CAN DO THIS WITH MINIMAL EFFORT! THERE ARE 100,000 FOLKS WILLING TO WATCH THE GAME IF PUBLICIZED AND MANAGED CORRECTLY.

The Official Team Shop will have a tent located on the East sideline at the 50-yard line and will be selling "Rise To The Top" adidas T-shirts featuring Coach Jones. The Team Shop is the exclusive retailer of the adidas shirt.

Should have been:
