It is really sad. We all make stupid mistakes in life. Unfortunately Tyler's cost him his basketball scholarship. He can still go on and make his dad and son proud of him though, and I wish him the best of luck.

He still has 12 classes left? My god. What has he been doing the past three years at UT?

Is he finishing it at UT? Doesn't the administration kick them out of school after things like this?

That is exactly what I told my wife when I read this. He is a Senior, second semester and has 12 classes??? no way he finishes IMO

This really made me choked up...I do feel for him. I am a sucker for sad endings no matter who's fault it is.

Remember speed kills - if they hadn't been speeding none of this would have happened :(

I initially thought this was a typo and was supposed to read "12 hours"....IDK how he can still be 12 classes or 36 or so hours short...no way.

I hate this for anyone...wish it never had happened, but it did. Tyler, please keep your nose clean in the future and I hope for the best in your future. Learn from your mistake.

He probably will not be allowed to return to school this semester, but would be able to return and complete his degree. I am some what shocked that he still lacks 12 classes--probably 36 hours completing his degree. Hope he learns from this and has no future problems.

The one I really feel for in all of this mess is Tyler's son. Now his dad isn't going to be making NBA bucks and doesn't have a college degree. I hope Tyler pulls it together for his son's sake.

A sad ending for sure. I really hope for Tyler that he stays clean and finishes school. If he was responsible I appreciate him being a man now and taking responsibility. Sad time for UT basketball.....I was so proud of them at the Charlotte. Good luck Tyler....I really wish nothing but the best for him.

12 classes wouldn't surprise me that much. After all, he is a transfer and some of his hours from Iowa may not have been credited. Plus, he could have changed his major or something as well.

However, with that being said, I think it is slim-to-none that he completes his degree. He will go overseas and make $200k a year playing in Greece or Turkey, so don't feel to sorry for him. If Major Wingate can play overseas, then Tyler Smith can. Major Wingate Basketball Player Profile, stats, biography, career - USBASKET

He runs around with stolen guns with the serial numbers filed off and some pot, that's the least of his concerns.
