Commissioner Thinks UCF,USF Cornerstone Rivalry of American Athletic Conference

I'm expecting a bunch of ludicrous news/announcements to come out of that conference for the next 2 or 3 years. They're going to try to create a buzz for that conference any way that they can. Look at their members...

They're going to have to force rivalries, revamped teams, silly ideas, gimmicks, etc etc down everyone's throats for a while. I expect a two-year pep rally from this conference in which they act excited or pumped about things that are not exciting at all.

However, I would gladly watch that "rivalry" all day at this time. I'm starved for college football and even this conference sounds watchable.

What the article didn't say:

Commissioner says USF-UCF rivalry a "cornerstone" of the new AAC, starts weeping uncontrollably.

USF and UCF are in a race to build up their football programs so that they can move on to a better conference. Winner moves up to a better conference in the next 10 years, loser stays behind. So yes, in this regard, its a heated rivalry.

Directional school rivalries are funny.

Fighting for bragging rights to be 3rd or 4th best in the state.

Makes sense, great point! :good!:

Ah, he's just playing the hand he has been dealt. Of the teams in this conference, this has to be the "premier" rivalry. I just hope all of the conference realignment is going to stop for a while just so I can learn who is in what conference.

Laugh now... I'm a UT alum and diehard -- but also a UCF season ticket holder. (My wife played golf for UCF)

They are an up and comer, especially if they get serious and fire O'Leary.... UCF has the largest undergrad enrollment in the COUNTRY (over 50,000), has great (new) facilities, and a young and growing fanbase.

They and USF have the advantage of taking the leftovers from FSU, UF, Miami in the fertile ground of Florida High School football.

Go VOLS!

You forget that the fertile ground of Florida High School football gets picked over by the rest of the SEC, ACC, Big Ten, and Big XII before UCF really gets a solid crack at the leftovers.

I won't speak for UCF but USF with Willie Taggart is competing pretty well for the high school talent in the Bay area. We'll see in a few years but it wouldn't surprise me if he outrecruits a bunch of ACC and SEC schools.
