Looked at Coach Jones HC stats and if you take out his first year at Cincy (4-8) which was a dumpster fire when he got there, here's how he stacks up against Urban Meyer in similar schools

Meyer Bowling Green 17-6 WP 74%
Jones Central Michigan 27-13 WP 68%

Meyer Utah 22-2 WP 92%
Jones Cincy 19-6 WP 76%

We all know what happened with Meyer at Florida. At least we can hope.:hi:

Hey I am all for CBJ , but a dumpster fire ? Really ? Weren't they like 12-1 the year before only getting blown out by Florida in the Sugar Bowl ?

Why was the first year at Cincy a dumpster fire? And doesn't your argument lose weight when you take out his 4-8 record?

let's ignore the bad season he had and pretend it didn't happen. that way, the ridiculous comparison won't look so ridiculous.

We are not looking for hope! We were hoping for a proven coach that could restore our confidence in the proud tradition that we once had.

Yes, this is a stretch...but no one asked you gator!...let us fight our internal trolls before we have to fend off the external ones!

It makes sense to me. But yeah, obviously the 'dumpster fire' description is a little over the top. That doesn't mean that Butch's first year at Cincinnati wasn't a rebuilding year though.

Also, Urban had Alex Smith at Utah, who played at just an unreal level in the two years they were together.

Urban is a hell of a coach. If we get anything close to a Meyer-like level of coaching here, we will be lucky.

Urban had Alex Smith and Tim Tebow. I know that a single player doesn't make or break a team, but I could see his record being a little closer to Coach Jones' record without those two players. And Butch hasn't had the opportunity to work with a heisman trophy winner. Maybe he'll get that opportunity at UT tho :)

That is only true if he doesn't develop man crushes on his QB's..then things hit the fan; wife and family are packing up and leaving, he is trying to join a religious therapy group to convert him back from his sinful ways expressly forbidden in Leviticus, broken heart resulting in resigning when QB leaves for draft and dismal NFL future, etc.

When he avoids his Elton John side he coaches pretty well.

Urban retained Charlie Strong and had a great staff around him. Jones had better do the same.

I read an interesting article on coaching a while back that basically talked about coaches who show themselves to be consistent winners are typically winners wherever they go. It doesn't much matter where they start out or come from.

Hopefully, that proves true with CBJ.

Meyer Utah 22-2 WP 92%
Jones Cincy 19-6 WP 76%
if you add the 4-8 record it becomes
Meyer Utah 22-2 WP 92%
Jones Cincy 23-14 WP 60%
Now that's incredibile!

Don't forget Josh Harris at BG, I'm being serious, Kid had talent.

That being said, I'm pumped about the hire, but I don't think he is going have success as quickly. (hope I'm wrong :))

The Cincy beat writer said that CBJ inherited a depleted roster when Kelly left for ND, which may have something to do with his bad first year at Cincy. Don't judge him by his first year, judge him by his progress from year to year. JMO

How about you just go back where you came from and quit living on a rivals message board so that you don't look so ridiculous.
