Though I think we are better off dropping after our performance, I do not think it is right for pollsters to rank teams based on how they think they will handle a strong or weak schedule. Louisville is a prime example, and WVa was like this last year.

They rank a subpar team highly just because there may be a chance they will go undefeated.

I think that it should be based more on performance that potential. Maybe this is a plea to eliminate preseason polls.

I have an idea!!

Why don't we take a computer and average the results of a couple of the polls, Maybe we can use some of the computer rankings as well... maybe we can call it BCS...

I think eliminating preseason polls would be useless. People will still have their opinions anyways.

TN was the only team to win a and drop. Only two others won in the coach's and didn't rise (usc & tx). I am not surprised at the lack of respect. However of the 5 teams ahead of us in the AP, three could easily lose this week. (TX or Ohio ST, Michigan, and LSU).

This is the first poll of the season...I don't think it really matters at this point what we are ranked. Every thing will play its course and even out.

We need to play tough the next 2 games, and keep up there, i have a feeling that someone in front of us will stumble.

Did anyone notice that while we suffered "a scare" from UAB, Louisville "played it safe" against UK? You've got to be kidding me... UofL better look out this season, if that hadn't been UK, the comeback would have overcome them. Yet for them the 7 point differential to UK is no big deal... 7 point differential for UT vs. UAB? A scare... give me a break.

Either way, polls are meaningless until the end of the season.

The only good news is that no matter how bad the bias is in the polls if UT takes care of business and is undefeated at the end of the season there is no way UT will not be ranked #1 or #2 and playing in the National Championship. The schedule is just too tough for us to win out and not be at the Rose Bowl.

Teams in the Top 5 are held to a different standard than other teams.

If we win - we will be fine.

I find it hard to conclude that polls are biased when we started the season ranked at #3!

Early polls are guesses. Louisville may have gotten slack since it beat a BCS conference team (albeit UK).
