OK, so I have a very interesting issue with my work laptop that has become a Supreme Annoyance. Thus far, our tech company has been unable to help.

While working on the office terminal server, my shift keys do not generate capital letters about 1/3 of the time. It will work on one sentence, then not on the next. After backspacing to correct the lowercase, I am often still unable to get to the capital. With the amount that I type in our EHR, this has become a real nuisance and time-waster. This problem does not occur while using my local OS -- no problems with Word, Chrome, etc unless running through the server.

The problem also occurs on at least one of the nurse's laptops, same brand (Lenovo).

Any thoughts?

If it’s happening differ devices I’m guessing it’s a software issue. Does it do it in every application?

Edit: NM... I missed your last sentence.

I'm not trying to make fun here but have they tried turning it off and back on again (whatever hosts the software that isn't acting right)?

Is your EHR a web app on the terminal server? Or is it a local app sitting on the TS? I am guessing it is a web app given you can also use t from your personal machine. At least that is how it looks from here. Is there a lag time between you hitting the keys and the characters showing up in the field? We have some issues with that where I work. You type faster than it accepts characters and so hitting other keys like shift or enter screw everything up. I doubt it is the EHR application itself as crap like that would never make it past QA. Or I hope it wouldn't. How many users are on the TS at the same time using the same application? Maybe a resource problem too if it is maxed out.

Get rid of your diesel powered computers.... Couldn't resist.

Seriously, since you are in the medical field, I'm guessing you are working off of a shared server and possibly software designed for your industry/healthcare. This sounds like a problem with your industry specific software.

I may be wrong, but it's my best guess.

Interestingly enough, we use Lenovo and I have the same issue from time to time.

I thought it was just my typing skills (or lack thereof)

ETA: I do use a standalone keyboard, but our software isn't server based

The EHR is a local application on the TS.
There is no lag time, actually very fast.
It's not the EHR, as I also have the problem if I open another app on the TS (I tried notepad today). Again, I do NOT have the issue when running local apps on my own machine.

I would use a different brand usb keyboard with the laptop to rule out a problem with the laptop keyboard software.

This is actually an interesting thread. I've often found myself going back to capitalize words that I was pretty sure I had capitalized on my Lenovo computer...

So is it possible that the TS has some sort of keystroke logger on there? I am not proud of this, but back about 15 years ago I installed one on my (now ex) wife's computer. I used that to bust her fooling around on me. It made the computer do the same thing you describe. By the time she decided there was a problem and took it to a shop, the papers had been filed and I was long gone.
