There's a good article in the 6/25 issue of the Sporting News that discusses NFL concussions. It's a pretty scary take on the real lives of some NFL retirees and the possible futures of guys like Troy Aikman and Trent Green. Memory loss, dementia, and severe depression are symptons that seem to be the result of repeated concussions.

Forebodingly, the article mentions a former WWE wrestler, Chris Harvard, and how concussions negatively impacted his life. I've also heard that Chris Benoit's brain is going to be examined. I wouldn't be surprised if he sustained a few concussions that ultimately added to his instability. Former Eagles safety Andre Waters' brain was examined after he killed himself last year. Doctors said he had the brain of an 80 year old with Alzheimer's. He was 44. Bill Romanowski has similar problems and he is 41. Chris Benoit was 40.

A brain contusion cannot be a good thing. Not to mention everything else they dump into their bodies to keep them serviceable.

Is a link to the full article available online anywhere? I can't find one, and it sounds like an interesting article.

Imagine Frank Wycheck, 25 years from now, unable to lie about his forward pass being a lateral because he can't remember the Music City Miracle. Wycheck -- who retired in 2003 because of concussions and now works in radio and TV in Nashville -- fights headaches and depression. "It's a constant battle," says Wycheck, 35.

that is something of a cheap shot, and in some ways spoils the otherwise very serious nature of the article.
