Conference expansion

Somebody explain to me why the SEC would want Clempson or FSU? The conference already controls those TV markets. Neither are “National” brands.
I do not think the SEC wants them. I thinks it's fans projecting. Conference expansion is ALL about media deals. No one is taking a smaller slice of the pie for clemson or fsu

West Virginia or Virginia or VA Tech to get Virginia, North Carolina and maybe NC State to get N C market, and I would look at ND to get Indy market and Oklahoma State. Only reason I left out Duke is they are another Vandy in football and in the future teams like Vandy may be forced out of SEC, because they don't bring enough to table to warrant the money that is coming.

if you care about good football, it makes sense. They are two of the best available, really only Oregon and Notre Dame compare. Already have rivalries, so its not a case of transplanting UCLA into the Big 10. keeps the footprint in the SE. Minimizes Big 10/12 access to Florida, keeps them out of SC.

If we're talking major markets, got to bring in a big North Carolina school or Clemson to pull in Charlotte and Virginia Tech to rope in NOVA/DC/Maryland. I think that's the way to go, plus then you end up with virtually the entire southeastern quarter of the US represented in the conference.

and UT might not be on TV as much with adding more schools.

Broadcast TV is dying and no sports will be on free broadcast moving forward.

In 3-5 years if you don’t have a streaming package you will not watch sports only sitcom reruns from 40 years ago.

Disney for example wants to sell their over the air broadcast because revenue is dropping. Disney also wants to move ESPN off of cable. Between ESPN and consumers both wanting off cable, if you want to watch sports by 2028, you will be paying ESPN $25-50 a month just for ESPN…

I know this post will get all kinds of negative comments, just telling you my industry opinion…And my customer is a large media empire so I study this space for a living.

I would rather pay $50 a month for live sports than pay for my DirecTV subscription, of which I only watch live sports.

And that is what the media companies are planning on doing. Squeeze the bundlers(comcast, spectrum, DirecTV,etc) out of the business equation.

the SEC should add UNC & UVA.
Two elite Southern Universities that are the model of what all southern schools should aspire to be. It fills out the conference nicely. They’re prestigious, we’re already so far of everyone else in pretty much football and baseball, adding two solid basketball schools with football potential and tremendous academics while keeping our biggest rival—the big ten—at bay—is the best strategic move for the SEC.

UNC is a model of cheating and corruption. But I do like our odds playing against a Mac Brown coached football team.

It’s a prestigious university. Elite basketball. Quality baseball and their football program has taken some steps in the right direction.

Now that coach K is gone at Duke, the door is wide open to pluck UNC from the ACC. It should be UVA and UNC.

There’s a reason why the big ten wants them—because they know it’s the best move for us.

Hard to imagine a live broadcast football game being played without a TV timeout. Not sure how the old bladder would hold up.
Timeouts will still be there, haven’t you noticed how all the streaming options are now adding commercials. They can’t survive without that money.

Yep, UNC is a regular paragon of virtue. Somehow they skirted major penalties on a “technicality” in one of the worst academic scandals in NCAA history. They are no better than any other P5 school. Forfeited their reputation with that mess.
