The BIG TEN has added Oregon, Washington, UCLA and USC. The conference now has 18 schools. The BIG 12 just added Utah, Arizona and Arizona State along with UCF, Cincinnati, BYU and Colorado. The Pac 12 only has 4 schools left. College sports will be very interesting starting 2024.

Maybe Sankey should go after the PAC12 Rose Bowl slot.

I’m thinking some of those WCC and MWC teams join the PAC

Why is this under Lady Vols thread?
The world of Women's College Basketball will be very different come 2024. Some rivalry games will no longer be played. Will the Pac 12 dissolve or can they add at least 6 schools to become the Pac 10 again? I feel like all of this started because of the hate and jealousy of the SEC. The conference has had LSU and South Carolina win national championships in the last few years and other SEC women's basketball teams have represented well in the post season. The conference has been successful in all sports for years especially College Baseball. The SEC has dominated College football the last 10 years plus just added two schools that are top tier brands that will continue to generate the conference millions of dollars. I think the realignment will also have a big impact on women's basketball recruiting.

I'm definitely curious to see what happens with the ACC going forward. Would love for the SEC to finally get its hands on the North Carolina and Virginia markets (and selfishly I'd be able to see these games so much easier 😋)

Agreed, but I bet it isn’t over. The BIG TEN has added Oregon, Washington, UCLA and USC. The conference now has 18 schools. Definitely getting interesting, and I bet it isn’t over yet.

They are going after cumulative revenue vs quality revenue, albeit both gobbled up some of the top 50. Smart move. I am guessing TX and OK both make up for a handful of those schools in revenue. SEC should go after FSU, Clemson, NC, Duke, Virginia. The argument has been that FL and SC would not agree with that. We just let TX in on A&M. Clearly it’s not about emotion. It’s about shared revenue. We land those schools, it is over. Kansas would be a feather in the cap monetarily speaking. That would put them at 19 though, so…

The fact some of the schools considering said conferences didn’t join leads me to think it’s going to happen. What else? All in the same relative region. South and or South East if you look at the entire map. Big East and remainder of ACC will adjoin. Big 10 should pick up Louisville and VA Tech if they can though. I can see Big 12 gobbling up the rest of the Pac.

So does the Big 12 stay a "P5" conference or become a "G5"?

College sports will be very interesting/destroyed starting 2024, Too many changes!
Again, money from football is ruining the college experience for student athletes around the country. The best scenario would have been starting a football only national conference with two or four regions. They would make up their own rules and with their own NC playoff requirements. This would be separate from the NCAA. The conferences from before movement should have stayed intact for every other college sport, even basketball. The student athletes go to a particular school for the chance to compete at a high level with other high-level schools to fight for a conference championship. How can a team become conference champs if they have to compete with 17 other teams? The travel for football is not bad since they only play 11 or 12 games, but just for basketball teams play up to 30 regular season and conference tournament games. The SEC hasn't been affected by this, but the others have with various degrees. Moving forward, these conferences now are all about football, so I think the ACC and Big East should form the ultimate basketball conference. The ACC is best known for basketball, and the Big East is all about basketball. The ACC cannot compete now with the Big 3 in football, so then should make a move for basketball before it's too late.

Muffet McGraw had a thoughtful post about all this. Let football go do what football is going to do and leave everyone else alone. The travel that basketball would have to put in is insane. It must be breaking Tara's heart to think of schlepping her kids across country on multiple weeknights throughout the winter to play St John's or Clemson. Making a super basketball conference out of the Big East or ACC wouldn't address these logistical and financial problems.

I swear sometimes it seems like the NCAA is trying to end its own existence.

I hate to break the news to you, but conference realignment has absolutely nothing to do with WBB.

Perhaps the four PAC 12 schools hitch their wagons to the Mountain West Conference.
