Confused about a call on the field

If someone could help me understand this, I would appreciate it much. Why did UK not have to take a personal foul when they just about ripped our players head off with a face-mask in OT2, and our guy took a penalty for throwing the football to the ground in OT3?

The personal foul happened during the play so it wasn't carried over to the next OT. The Unsportsmanlike Conduct penalty on Arian Foster was after the play was over, so it was enforced. It's a dumb distinction though that needs to be addressed. There's no way a team should be able to get away with a flagrant facemask to stop a return.

You should register and come join us over on the Vol Board.

Definitely needs to be addressed. This is as bad as the difference between fumbling a ball that goes out at the one vs. going out in the endzone past the pylon. (retain possession at the 1 vs. a turnover to the other team at the 20)

What I can't figure out is why the unsportsmanlike penalty was called in the first place. The overtime period was over and there was no delay of game. Ridiculous!! Oh well, all that matters is that it didn't screw us in the long run.
