You have become the first coach to go from being responsible for the unnecessary death of somebody because of your stubbornness, idiocy, and selfishness, somehow avoid all the blame nationally because the media is a bunch of cowardly jackasses, and then became a coach who went 12-0.

Hope it was all worth it. RIP Declan Sullivan.

To be fair, there aren't a lot of coaches who completed the first part if this scenario.

I remember this story, but was it ever proven that Kelly was directly responsible for what happened? Were any lawsuits ever filed and/or damages awarded?

Here's the findings: Notre Dame's Explanation For Declan Sullivan's Death Is Conciliatory, Still Not Good Enough

Edit: Actually, they didn't sue Notre Dame. Instead they asked them to donate money for a foundation they started in honor of Declan.

The kid's family did not litigate it. Notre Dame was penalized for several safety violations by the state of Indiana.

The most damning thing was that right down the road at Ohio State on the same day, Jim Tressel said he was moving practice indoors because they were worried about the kids up in the towers. Later that day Declan Sullivan died.

That 42K sure put a dent on Notre Dame.

That's the worst part. Shows a total lack of awareness by Kelly. And Tressel even said that when talking to the media, he was worried about the camera guys.

Oh, also, the practice still happened EVEN AFTER the tower came down and they took Declan Sullivan off on a stretcher.

Brian Kelly is scum.

so you hate brian kelly....we get it geez man...it's not up to you to be a judge anyway

So wait? I can't judge a man who is at complete fault for the death of a college student?

This story is not getting enough attention. While everyone is on Brian Kelly's nuts for restoring Notre Dame, parents don't have a son and siblings don't have a brother because he is an idiotic, selfish ******* who was too naive to realize that dangerous winds were happening even though Declan Sullivan was tweeting that he was "terrified" while was up there.

Sorry if I'm judging too harshly.

No you cannot...you have an opinion but you are not the judge for we all know who the ultimate judge is...and name calling is really childish

You cannot be serious with this post.

If me calling Brian Kelly an ******* because he got someone killed is childish, then call me childish.

And I will judge somebody face on the facts at hand.

The facts are that Brian Kelly's irresponsible actions led to someone dying.

Those are facts. I will judge.

So you don't judge Jerry Sandusky either, am I correct?

He was found guilty in a court of law...and i'm sure his judgement day will not be a good one but it's up to God what his final punishment will be when that time comes for him

It's pretty amazing how this gets absolutely no national coverage. If they were 7-5 this would be one of the main reasons people would want him fired.

Look, I wanted him fired after that incident, and I still think he's an ass. Obviously, Kelly's (and Notre Dame's) judgement was very stupid that day, but let ask this.

However, as callous as it sounds, I think most, including myself, have moved on, so to speak. It's not that people don't care, it's just that it's in the past now. Nobody can do anything about it anymore, so why continue to dwell on it?

Well if the family isn't blaming Notre Dame why should you?

Truth. Being undefeated / 12-0 ... just another (shameless) example of Winning = cure all.
