Congrats to the only TRUE college football champions. The Villanova Wildcats have won the tournament and are first time National Champions. Now that all the playoffs are finished, it's time for the beauty pageant otherwise known as bowl season which like William Shakespeare told us is "A tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing".

BCS SUCKS...

For Pete's sake, you've got your nose so far in the air that if it rained you'd probably drown.

Interesting that the FCS is expanding their playoffs to 20 teams next year, adding a 5th playoff week. Yet the FBS trys to sell that even an 8 team playoff would be an excessive demand on the players.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching the FCS playoffs this year and felt drama and excitment when I had no stake in the outcome. I would more than welcome that from the big boys.

Agreed! The semifinal game between Montana and Appy State last week was incredible! The chamionship game wasn't too shabby either!

I don't have anything wrong with my nose thank you very much. I really don't know what you're talking about.

I'm not a fan of ANY of those schools, but I enjoyed the playoffs quite a bit. it was cool to watch Jeff Fisher (Titan's HC) play for Montana (#25 i think) and I obviously cheered for him to do well.

The comment I made was mostly about how it was a REAL system of finding a champion and not a beauty pageant like the BCS.

I can't wait for the BCS to die....

16 team playoff is way to many teams for college football, unless you want to see the Iron Bowl and Ohio State-Michigan played by backups in the future.

Even if you did have a 16 team playoff in D1-A, you'd still have to play hard for seeding. It's kind of like college basketball. If you get in, that's great. But in order for you to make a run to the championship, you most likely need a great seed.

I still prefer an 8 team playoff. It's the best compromise between no playoff and a 16 team playoff; it let's the best team compete for the title and still keeps the regular season very important.

BTW I think you're forgetting something...Division II and III both have playoffs; so if your definition of a true NC is because they have a playoff, then you can't say Villanova is the only true NC. Not to mention NAIA has playoffs too. Heck I think JUCO even has a playoff.

You would still see players getting rested...

It's still not the point. In college football, every game matters. That wouldn't be the case with a 16 team playoff.

So, its true, FBS is the only one without playoffs. That makes sense, the most important and talented league is the only one without a true championship.

you have 11 "Bowl Subdivision" conferences"
thus 11 conference champs.......now out of the 11 conferences..5 have split Divisions.....so you take the 11 champs, seed them 1 through 11 then take the 5 2nd place teams (wild cards), seed them 12 through 16.
I don't care if Florida would be seeded lower than Troy...tough crap..should have won your conference like Troy...you do this...it would make the regular season better because teams would be playing for better seeding all season long

there is your 16 team playoff.

Other than the title game, attendance would likely suffer as well.

It would be difficult far a fanbase to mobilize on a week's notice from one location to another.

And assuming the OP is a Vol fan, I'd like to know his thoughts on the 1998 season's outcome.

My thoughts on 98? ok..

We won the NC as the benefactor of a flawed system. I actually think that we would have done very well in a "tournament" in the years of 1999 (9-3) and 2001 (11-2) or event 2004 (10-3). I think in all those years we were a HOT team going into bowl season and would have gone deep in the tourney.

So, 98? Benefactor of a flawed system and I'll TAKE it, but I still think the system sucks and should be changed.

SO, under a non-BCS system perhaps UT would have 2 NC in the last 11 years and not just 1... <grin>

how do you like THAT logic? :)

Miami would have chosen the margin of victory against Tennessee in 2001, and the thought that UT was actually championship good in 2004 is a complete joke. The 1998 team is easily the best team UT has had in recent memory, and would have a very good chance at winning the title even if there was a tournament.
