Your win over #3/#1 Alabama is very similar to when Heupel QB’d #3 Oklahoma to a win over #1 Nebraska in 2000, officially solidifying Oklahoma being back, eventually resulting in a national title. I know there is half a season left, but that win means Tennessee is officially back! I hope you all finish strong and get some hardware. Oh, and Heupel isn’t going anywhere. Tennessee has never been a stepping stone job. It’s a destination job, and let’s hope Heupel has a long and illustrious career in Knoxville.

Hyatt! Hooker! Heupel!

So on that bolded part. You sure the rest of Sooner Nation feels the same way? It’s still way early and I think Venables gets his three years but if it doesn’t work out…🤷‍♂️ Regardless it’s Danny White’s job to lock him up

If you are willing to pay (i have to charge since I dont like your team), I can head on over to the Oklahoma message boards and create a losersooner username and help get the fire Venables flames started.

My services include:

The Crappie Awards (Just a thin excuse to crap on the current head coach and athletic director)

Create "Surely Lincoln Riley will come back to Norman after last nights upset" message board posts.

Create "Times for lil' Stoops to leave Kentucky" message board posts.

"Would Big Stoops unretire for the right amount of cash?"

I will have to charge extra for any Josh Heupel related posts.

Like he said, Tennessee isn't a stepping stone job. Lane Kiffin made UT fans question that. But he's Lane Kiffin, not a normal person.

Thanks and I’ll bet Kiffin regrets leaving Tennessee every day.

I don’t disagree with any of what you said and no I’m not (necessarily) worried. But if Venables trips up it’s the discussion that’s going to happen. It’s clear Hype wants to be here and is enamored with the environment hell who wouldn’t be right now. There is also all the “history”. But at the end of the day this is a business and Hype is a big boy. Again it’s White’s job to lock him up

With all the activity we see from the AD I would be stunned if news didn’t break about a long term contract in the coming weeks.

Thanks for the Vote of Confidence. I agree I don't think Heupel is going anywhere. He has found a home here and sometimes it is not all about the $$$$ but instead it is about the right fit and loving your work as a Coach and the relationships/journey.
I had jobs that I have said "I can't believe that they are Paying me to do this" I have the feeling Heupel is doing the same. Especially if you are good at what you do.

No doubt there’s history. Apparently Heupel and Stoops haven’t talked since Heupel was let go at OU. There’s some bad blood also not just with Stoops but with other members of the 2000 national championship team. No matter what happens at OU, Heupel will not be a consideration because of that history. Heupel’s stock is skyrocketing. Tennessee football is a career, not a resume builder, unless he took that next step to the NFL.

Tennessee locals know the true worth of Vols football historically. Some might say it’s not as historical as others. If Michigan gets top ten historical clout, then Tennessee is in the same conversation. Vols may only have two poll era titles by virtue of AP and Coaches, but one could easily see the Vols also had National Championship teams worthy of AP and UPI standards in 1938, 1939, 1940, 1950, 1967. In essence, that’s SEVEN national championships total with 1951 and 1998. Let’s not forget that if not for the two ties in 1985, that was a national championship for Tennessee. Take away historical poll politics, the prestige of Tennessee is on par with the elites we all know of today.

Heupel is a National Championship quarterback coaching a program that is looking to add to their National Championship resume. Heupel is Home.

Thanks for the reply and discussion. I live in Dallas so I hear more about the Sooners and Horns than I do the Vols. And most of the Sooners I know are restless and not seeing Venables getting them home. When I bring up the history they are like “so?!”. When Hype has the success that we all expect him to have even if it isn’t OU somebody will come calling. It’s White’s job to lock him up. If people aren’t trying to poach all your coaches then usually you need better coaches.

I definitely think he does. I think some of his "positive" focus about Tennessee is not trolling but actual regret. I mean the guy was shouting Go Vols yesterday. He coached at Alabama more recently than Tennessee but he still seems to obsess a lot about us.

Frankly, I don't have any hate for Kiffin.

OU has statues of all its Heisman winners and soon to have one for the Selmons. But not one for the last QB to lead the Sooners to a national title. If he wins a national title here, we'll erect one for him.

Really appreciate the kind words. Can you stick around? :D

I've found it odd watching OU struggle with V as the coach. Gabriel is legit. Everything looked like growing pains until that TX debacle.

If you want on the Vols bandwagon we'd be happy to have you, at least until OU gets it straightened out.

Thanks, Oklahomey. And congrats on your all's win yesterday. Was happy to see you all bounce back after last week. Venables is a class guy and hope he succeeds there.
