Did you wear your Vol stuff? And, if so, how did your hosts react?

How quiet did it get in there after the steal by Bradshaw?

I had neutral clothes. I went in with a Florida student, and I didn't want to start off on the wrong foot. It didn't get quiet until Lofton was fouled. There was a little kid behind me, saying "Tennessee still sucks." That was funny. He may have been 6-years-old or something like that. On the way out, walking past all those UF students, I felt like I had my hand in the cookie jar and was stealing their cookies. :biggrin2:

Weak.

My house in Florida flew a gameday Power T for three years, with constant harassment and threats from the neighbors.

Just so we are clear, by any objective measure my feeling is that UT is better than Florida. You beat us twice, including a game at home that we had every reason to try to win. No excuses, no nuthin.' Beat us fair and square.

To those who think I was giving you a backhanded compliment, I admit I often do that on this site. It is part of my charm.

But my point in the original post is that a lot of teams would not have defended the inbounds like you did. Yes, it was a bad play by Florida. But that does not mean you did not make a good play in terms of taking advantage of the play we set up. Its all part of the game.

I think it patently obvious that the teams are pretty evenly matched. Both games decided by, what, 4 points and basically the last possession? I take no solace in the fact that we could have won either. Or both. If we had just made one better play here, or tipped in a shot there, or inbounded a ball better here. As I say, its all part of the game. We didn't. You did.

I am perfectly content saying that both teams are a whole lot better than expected and I don't mind at all being almost as good as UT this year.

Thanks, dude. I just didn't want anyone to think I was hedging on my compliments to your team. When I say that Florida made a bad play that cost them dearly, that is not to say that UT didn't make the play they needed to in order to take advantage. That is just as good in Bball and counts just as much as if Lofton had launched one from 50 feet and caught nothing but net!!

I was listening to the Donovan radio show tonight on the way home from work and some Gator fan called in and bitched about fouls getting called and not getting called. So annoying and this is what I am talking about come tourney time. Got to be tough.

The thing that was most disturbing to me about that last sequence is that it did not seem to me that anyone from Florida was willing to step up and be the go to guy, whereas the Tennessee players were totally gutting it out. That is a VERY good sign for you, a terrible one for Florida.

You will most certainly need that at Tournament time...The shots will not always be falling but you have to gut it out and find a way...

Some people tend to be classier after they have lost. Don't think he wouldn't be here rubbing our noses in it if UF had won.

The play of the game was an inbounds pass with just about 20 seconds left in the game and the score tied. What a steal and the layup! Would like to have heard John Ward call this play!
Did I hear someone say "HOW SWEEP IT IS?"

AWESOME GAME! AWESOME TEAM!

GO VOLS!!!!!!!!!!

like i said earlier, i don't know that i would have shown up on a gator board after that game had we lost in similar fashion....and i think most of us know what you were getting at....we did make a good play on the ball there at the end, but as you said, the play that was run wasn't exactly executed very well...fortunately, we executed on D to make that play.

I can say with some relative certainty, that we all felt the same way about some games we played during the football season....we didn't execute in MANY games last season, and as a result, other teams made the plays that won the games....we can all go back and look at plays and think, if we'd just done this, or not done that, things would be different, but as with all, those are the kinds of plays that seaparte winners from losers.

and for now, we'll take it. why don't we just meet again in the conf. tourney final....that'd be a great game, and probably a game that wouldn't make any real difference for the tourney...just for fun....what do ya say?

Deal!

I have to say that I do like the pressure being on you guys for a bit. Now that Florida is looking a 5 or even a 6 seed squarely in the eye, I want to see if you guys can maintain the intensity to keep the #2 seed you probably have right now. Tell you what, though, Florida needs to figure out a way to win some games down the stretch here. They are 5-5 for the last ten right now. True one was an OT loss and the margin of losing has been 4 or 5 points in each, still, they are L's.

As to the fellow who said I'd be on here rubbing it in if Florida had won, I don't think that's true. I expected Florida to win the game so if we'd have pulled out a four point victory I'd have said that the game was closer than I thought and that, given the similar margin of victory, I'd say that the teams were even.

I don't think that now. Tennessee is better. Not leaps and bounds better. But, Tennessee in both games has done what it needed to win and Florida has not and in the tournament that is the difference between the first and second weekends. It is what Florida has been missing for several years. I thought at the beginning of the season, with close victories over Syracuse and Wake, that this Florida team had the chemistry to find that way to win. They've lost that somewhere along the way.

As I said earlier, at the end of this last game with you it seemed to me that the Florida players were tentative, timid, and no one wanted to go to Brewer to help him out and be the go to guy. At the beginning of the seaon someone rose to the occassion and sealed the W. Now, feels like players are running away from that responsibility. And now begins the finger pointing and the self-doubt. I've seen it before, season after season.

With Pearl, you seem immune to it. He is the reason your kids have that special determination to find a way to win. Got to pray that the Gators get that confidence back, and quick.

I think your pretty spot on here...though i would still say that there really isn't any pressure on us.....yet.

It will be interesting to see us in a one and done situation. hopefully the SEC tourney will answer that question....in a positive way, not that we have to win it, but i'd like to see us in the final game at least...but even if we don't get to the final, no TN fan will be truly upset.

Cause, let's face, it the pressure is on everyone once you get in the NCAA....

As to your chemistry problem...i don't know...there was a time when UF could do no wrong...even after you guys lost to us and SC, you got much love in the polls....but i wonder if maybe some of your guys got caught reading about themselves too much, a problem that we haven't run in to yet, and i give BP all the credit for that.

I would say that yeah, we're better than UF. But as far as teams that match up, we're not very far apart....heart at this point, as you basically said, has been the difference.

hopefully this season is just a preview of what we can expect in the years to come betwee UT, UF and KY down the road....i'd love nothing more than for us to be a thorn in both of your sides over the next few years.

I think UF will be fine in the NCAA as long as they don't get hosed and get lower than a 5 seed....if they get a seed lower than that, the 1st round game could be a doozie. I still think UF is a 4 seed at worst though.

likewise, i hope we don't screw up and get past a 4 seed....those 1st round matchups can be dicey from 12 on down...you never know what the committee can do....i like our chances much better at a 2 or 3 seed at worst.

listen to me, i actually sound like i know what i'm talking about!! Fake it til you make it!!!
Go VOls...beat the piggies.
