Deal!
I have to say that I do like the pressure being on you guys for a bit. Now that Florida is looking a 5 or even a 6 seed squarely in the eye, I want to see if you guys can maintain the intensity to keep the #2 seed you probably have right now. Tell you what, though, Florida needs to figure out a way to win some games down the stretch here. They are 5-5 for the last ten right now. True one was an OT loss and the margin of losing has been 4 or 5 points in each, still, they are L's.
As to the fellow who said I'd be on here rubbing it in if Florida had won, I don't think that's true. I expected Florida to win the game so if we'd have pulled out a four point victory I'd have said that the game was closer than I thought and that, given the similar margin of victory, I'd say that the teams were even.
I don't think that now. Tennessee is better. Not leaps and bounds better. But, Tennessee in both games has done what it needed to win and Florida has not and in the tournament that is the difference between the first and second weekends. It is what Florida has been missing for several years. I thought at the beginning of the season, with close victories over Syracuse and Wake, that this Florida team had the chemistry to find that way to win. They've lost that somewhere along the way.
As I said earlier, at the end of this last game with you it seemed to me that the Florida players were tentative, timid, and no one wanted to go to Brewer to help him out and be the go to guy. At the beginning of the seaon someone rose to the occassion and sealed the W. Now, feels like players are running away from that responsibility. And now begins the finger pointing and the self-doubt. I've seen it before, season after season.
With Pearl, you seem immune to it. He is the reason your kids have that special determination to find a way to win. Got to pray that the Gators get that confidence back, and quick.
I think your pretty spot on here...though i would still say that there really isn't any pressure on us.....yet.
It will be interesting to see us in a one and done situation. hopefully the SEC tourney will answer that question....in a positive way, not that we have to win it, but i'd like to see us in the final game at least...but even if we don't get to the final, no TN fan will be truly upset.
Cause, let's face, it the pressure is on everyone once you get in the NCAA....
As to your chemistry problem...i don't know...there was a time when UF could do no wrong...even after you guys lost to us and SC, you got much love in the polls....but i wonder if maybe some of your guys got caught reading about themselves too much, a problem that we haven't run in to yet, and i give BP all the credit for that.
I would say that yeah, we're better than UF. But as far as teams that match up, we're not very far apart....heart at this point, as you basically said, has been the difference.
hopefully this season is just a preview of what we can expect in the years to come betwee UT, UF and KY down the road....i'd love nothing more than for us to be a thorn in both of your sides over the next few years.
I think UF will be fine in the NCAA as long as they don't get hosed and get lower than a 5 seed....if they get a seed lower than that, the 1st round game could be a doozie. I still think UF is a 4 seed at worst though.
likewise, i hope we don't screw up and get past a 4 seed....those 1st round matchups can be dicey from 12 on down...you never know what the committee can do....i like our chances much better at a 2 or 3 seed at worst.
listen to me, i actually sound like i know what i'm talking about!! Fake it til you make it!!!
Go VOls...beat the piggies.
