Your son was a 7th draft pick and got a whopping $50,000 signing bonus and $537k/year for 4.

Trent Richardson got $20 million guaranteed for 4 including a $13.7 million signing bonus.

Just thought you would like to know the cost of cowardice and stupidity: about EIGHTEEN MILLION DOLLARS.

Its a shame for Bryce Brown. You certainly can't retire comfortably off $537k for 4 years.

$20 million guaranteed and you're good to go (assuming you don't roll with a posse

It is almost 100% certain that Bryce would be in a better position if he'd stayed at Tennessee.

How much money do you make? I'd trade with Bryce.

Unnecessary.

If you had his skills, I'd hope you're smart enough to have done more with it.

Imagine if he's wearing orange this year behind the OLine with 105 combined starts. Top 5 pick guaranteed.

BB would be in a better situation, but he wouldn't have Richardson money.

He's making $537K, so he still wins.

The cost isn't $18M, because Bryce Brown isn't Trent Richardson....

Link? Seriously, I'm interested.

Seems to me that Bryce Brown is doing ok considering he ran for less than 500 yards in college. I'm hoping he can overcome the family issues and maybe renegotiate next year. Will probably have to be with another team as the Eagles just gave their RB a pretty good extension.

Trent does have two kids and he has an Escalade from college to buy.

I'm a little confused on your math. You say Richardson got $20M + a $13.7M signing bonus. That's $33.7M. Brown got almost $2.2M with his bonus and contract combined. Assuming the two are equal players (which they aren't) I'm not sure how you came up with that $18M figure.

Either way, just let it go. Players transfer all the time when coaching changes take place. Brown came to UT because he wanted to play for Kiffin and a team that was on its way to the top. Once Kiffin left, UT went from a team that was on the rise to a team that was headed nowhere. I can't really fault Brown for recognizing that situation was going to suck and looking for a better option for himself. In hindsight, he might have been better off to have stayed in Knoxville, but who knows. It seemed like Dooley kind of had it in for him from day 1, so things might not have worked out even if he had stayed.

Sounds like Bryce Brown is doing fairly well at Eagles training camp. All he has to do is prove himself for a few years and who knows what may happen. See Arian Foster...Foster was 4th string for almost an entire NFL season before injuries elevated him to some playing time.

*edit 1 season not 2

Source: Philadelphia Inquirer - Jeff McLane

Philadelphia Eagles RB Bryce Brown appears to be in the lead over RB Chris Polk for the No. 3 running back job.

He said including a $13.7M bonus, not in addition to.

$20M - $2.2M = $18M approximately

Not the point though. The point is, this thread is pointless and dumb.

Foster also had some help though. Everyone in front of him either started having a really bad problem with fumbling (Steve Slaton, the starter) or got badly injured (Brandon Tate rookie year; was another as well)

Understand though I'm not trying to take away from how far he's (Foster) come, but - while you're right about proving yourself being important - there is also kind of a (for lack of a better descriptor) "luck" component often in play as well

FYI, Foster worked his way up the depth chart in his first season. He didn't appear in a game until like week 11, but started the last game of his rookie season, and was the starter at the beginning of his second season.

Edit: Whoops, missed your edit, LOL

Foster started at the end of his rookie year, but it wasn't until week 14. (3 of the last 4 games) (and if i recall correctly, it actually came following Slaton's benching - and then revealed neck/nerve injury - and then another RB either playing poorly or getting hurt)

If I recall correctly though, the starter at the beginning of the second preseason was between Slaton and Tate (or it was between all three with Foster being more of the darkhorse). Slaton then proceeded to - after a season where the coach was on him about fumbling - fumble on the goal line of his first drive of the first preseason game (which pushed him down on the chart) and Tate (either in the 1st or 2nd preseason game) was injured (on a kick return if I recall...it was either for the whole year or most of it).

It was then that Foster took control the rest of the preseason and won/established himself with the starting job his second season

I think Tate was injured within 10 minutes of the first preseason game.

Slaton's nerve injury affected feeling in his hand, which is why he fumbled.

And then Foster had like 230 yards and 3 TD's in the season opener and the rest is history.

Very much so. What if Slaton never got injured and played very well or what if Ben Tate never got injured? Remember, it was Tate who the Texans figured would replace Slaton by drafting him in the 2nd round. Unfortunately, he broke his ankle in 1st preseason game in 2010.

If Slaton or Tate never got injured I wonder if Foster would still be on the practice squad and/or even playing football anymore? Funny how these things can work out. Makes you wonder if there are others like Foster who are on the NFL team practice squads.

Pass blocking is normally something rookies struggle with but it looks like Bryce is doing well in training camp...

Philadelphia Eagles RB Bryce Brown has shown soft hands as a receiver since joining the team, and he showed off solid blocking in pass-protection drills Sunday, July 29. He appears to have a leg up in the battle for the No. 3 running back job over rookie RB Chris Polk
