Barr: FBI director is helping in Trump-Russia origins investigation
Attorney General William Barr said Monday his right-hand man, U.S. Attorney John Durham, is making progress in his investigation into the Trump-Russia inquiry origins, with help from FBI Director Christopher Wray.
“Director Wray and his team at the FBI have just been outstanding in support and responsiveness given to Mr. Durham,” Barr said to Fox News.
Durham has opened a criminal investigation as part of his review, which could empower him to impanel grand juries and hand down indictments. The secretive DOJ investigation includes scrutiny of former CIA Director John Brennan, former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, former FBI special agent Peter Strzok, and British ex-spy Christopher Steele. Durham has also sought interviews with many members of the CIA and FBI.
“As you know, I’ve said previously that I felt there was a failure of leadership at the bureau in 2016 and part of 2017, but since Director Wray and his team have taken over, there’s been a world of change,” Barr said. “I think that he is restoring the steady professionalism that’s been a hallmark of the FBI. I really appreciate his leadership there.”
The controversial actions taken by FBI Director James Comey in 2016 and 2017 are being looked at by Durham and were a key focus of DOJ inspector general Michael Horowitz’s lengthy investigation into possible abuse of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act too. Horowitz’s report is expected in the coming weeks.
Barr’s defense of Wray comes as some Republicansincluding Trump — have criticized the bureau’s director in recent months. Wray’s apparent assistance in the investigation of the investigators could prove essential to Durham getting answers.
Durham, whose portfolio recently expanded to include events from the launch of the investigation in 2015 or 2016 through the appointment of special counsel Robert Mueller in 2017, has taken overseas fact-finding trips with Barr, who was given “full and complete authority to declassify information” related to the origins of the Trump-Russia investigation in May. Barr selected Durham to run the investigation soon after.

Deep State Coup Plotters Peter Strzok, Bruce Ohr ‘Working Regularly With Each Other’ on ‘Illicit Spygate’
Government watchdog Judicial Watch announced Tuesday it has obtained copies of documents showing former FBI agent Peter Strzok and Bruce Ohr, the DOJ official whose wife worked for the company that created the anti-Trump Steele dossier, were holding regular conversations.

The communication took place as the Obama administration was investigating allegations of Trump-Russia collusion during the 2016 election that later were debunked by Robert Mueller's special council probe. The Justice Department currently is conducting a criminal investigation of the origins of the Obama investigation.
Strzok's determination to prevent Trump from winning and to undermine him should he be elected was documented in texts with his paramour, FBI lawyer Lisa Page. Ohr's wife, Nellie, was on the payroll of Fusion GPS, which was paid by the Hillary Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee to commission the dossier of allegations, based on Russian sources, produced by former British spy Christopher Steele. The Obama DOJ and FBI used the unverified, politically charged document as evidence to obtain warrants to spy on the Trump campaign.

"Ohr and Strzok clearly were working regularly with each other during the time the illicit Spygate operation heated up against President Trump," said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton.

"It speaks volumes that Judicial Watch was forced to drag the DOJ and FBI into court in order to force the agency to admit to documents they've obviously had all along."

Spotlight on Obama administration officials as Durham probe intensifies, Horowitz report looms
A number of former high-level Obama administration officials could fall into the investigative crosshairs of U.S. Attorney John Durham's team as his probe into the handling of the Russia investigation rises to the level of a criminal inquiry.

The elevation in status means the U.S. attorney for Connecticut will be able to subpoena witnesses, file charges and impanel grand juries.

TRUMP SAYS 'INVESTIGATE THE INVESTIGATORS' AS DURHAM PROBE TOUCHES OFF NEW WAR IN CONGRESS

“You do not impanel a grand jury at this point unless you are going to indict,” a source familiar with the investigation told Fox News. “Durham is at a point where he knows he has crimes and now the question is how many people were involved and they have a pretty good idea of that group of people and what the charges can be and whether or not they can get some cooperators.”

The development has prompted allegations from Democrats that the Department of Justice is being politicized. Attorney General Bill Barr, however, rejected those claims and defended the Durham probe in an interview earlier this week with Fox News, while accusing the James Comey-era FBI brass of a "failure of leadership."

Those bureau leaders and others could well be questioned as part of Durham's probe, as speculation runs rampant over who might be at risk of being charged.

For his part, Comey was asked about Durham’s investigation at the recent Politicon convention in Nashville. He said he's “not worried about a single thing in connection with any of the matters under investigation.”

“Gather the facts, write a report and share it with the American people — please do that,” Comey said. “Don’t drip it out. Don’t leak it out. Give it out. And I’m confident that when the American people see the picture of why we did what we did, their confidence in the institution will be maintained, restored and protected.”

Comey also praised Durham as someone who has “a strong professional reputation” and someone he has “for years thought was an excellent prosecutor."

Politico: Ukraine interfered in 2016 election against Trump on behalf of Hillary Clinton | Sharyl Attkisson
November 1, 2019 by Sharyl Attkisson
With all of the talk about Ukraine, there is some helpful context and background to be found in a 2017 article in Politico. The following includes excerpts from the article followed by a link to the entire article.

Ukrainian efforts to sabotage Trump backfire
Donald Trump wasn’t the only presidential candidate whose campaign was boosted by officials of a former Soviet bloc country.
Ukrainian government officials tried to help Hillary Clinton and undermine Trump by publicly questioning his fitness for office. They also disseminated documents implicating a top Trump aide in corruption and suggested they were investigating the matter, only to back away after the election. And they helped Clinton’s allies research damaging information on Trump and his advisers, a Politico investigation found.
A Ukrainian-American operative who was consulting for the Democratic National Committee met with top officials in the Ukrainian Embassy in Washington in an effort to expose ties between Trump, top campaign aide Paul Manafort and Russia, according to people with direct knowledge of the situation.
The Ukrainian efforts had an impact in the race, helping to force Manafort’s resignation and advancing the narrative that Trump’s campaign was deeply connected to Ukraine’s foe to the east, Russia. But they were far less concerted or centrally directed than Russia’s alleged hacking and dissemination of Democratic emails.
