The federal government made available 198 pages of correspondence between a medical supplier and the Food and Drug Administration detailing procurement of fetal tissue for research involving "humanized mice," according to a conservative watchdog group.

The records, produced in response to a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit against the Health and Human Services Department, mainly pertain to communications and related attachments between Perrin Larton, a procurement manager for Advanced Bioscience Resources, and research veterinary medical officer Kristina Howard of the FDA, Judicial Watch announced on Tuesday.

The emails span 2013 to 2018, when the FDA under President Donald Trump ended its contracts with ABR. The Trump administration blocked federal funding for research projects using fetal tissue from elective abortions in 2019, but the National Institutes of Health reversed the restrictions in April under President Joe Biden.

“Humanized mice” involve implanting certain undeveloped human tissue cells into living mice in order to grow human organs or cells.
