Container shipping cost

We used to pay $2500 to get now getting quotes up near $30,000 & two years shipping
Apparently, there is a shortage of CDL holders. Look at the recent news stories about what is going on at the Port of Savannah. A friend of mine who lives down there told me that builders are showing up at the port with U-Hauls trying to buy materials straight out of the containers.

Hm, we have been hearing that trucks will be self driving for a for a few years. We have also been telling young people that truck driving is a dead end road so we don't have many new people choosing to give it a try. Combine that with the period when boomers are retiring and we have a shortage. At least part of the problem.

It's been years in the making. We were talking about this stuff in my supply chain classes at Tennessee a decade ago.

We came close to buying two for the farm right before COVID and was quoted $6,000 for both....called about a month ago and they said they were $14,000 EACH and it could take 10 months to get one.

I think truck drivers are safe for a while.

I'm talking about just delivered cost to a warehouse from China not the actual container

Yep. We are getting a lot of requests for Casework and Millwork items now from customers who normally order from China. That $20K container add-on, the actual shipping charge, and the lead time. Even from Europe. What used to be a $3K container charge from Turkey for a load of stone top slabs, is now $12K.

There is a shipping clog rn. Some of it's covid related (a back log), but the big reason is BREXIT. The UK is in a melt down rn. They are waiting in line for hours to hoard fuel (petrol) like we hoarded toilet paper. IT's basically a global back log, and they are telling everyone to buy Christmas NOW. Don't wait.

..plus the US postal master just jacked prices for shipping mail exponentially. There are many factors that are being compounded together. Not an easy fix.
