My beloved Cougars are 8-0 (just 3 short seasons from being 0-10) and going for just the second perfect season in school history. Along with the perfect season, the district 4 championship and a no. 1 seed in quadiant 1 of the playoffs is on the line. Keep it up Big Red, all of us in the Basin are proud of you. I will be there Thursday at Finley cheering for you guys.

Being a Chattanoogan, and knowing one of their starting LBs from church, I gotta pull from the Bucs on this one. :) Both are very good teams, so best wishes to both, and good luck!

80% of the teams in Chattanooga would be undefeated playing Copper Basin's schedule. They wouldn't even play Polk County because they knew they'd get killed. The only reason they're playing Boyd is because they have no choice since it's a district game.

That's absolutely not the reason Copper Basin doesn't play Polk County. In fact they're in the process of putting each other back on the schedule. Copper Basin also tried to put a AAA Georgia team, Fannin County, on the schedule for this year but Fannin backed out before school started leaving the gaping hole of 2 weeks off. Basin is in an unfortunate (and illogical) position of having to play down during the year and play up during the playoffs.

I think the Cougars have a really talented team this year; they were just distracted some by the large venue and a Thursday night game. I'm really, really hoping they get a second chance at the Buccaneers in the playoffs. :good!:

Didn't play, but went there from 2nd grade through HS, 1995 to 2006.

Up until around 1998 the Bucs were terrible in football. After getting a few good recruits they upped their game. At Copper Basin I never lost to Polk County and beat Boyd Buchanan and South Pittsburgh.

Basin can't play Boyd in the playoffs since CB is 1A and Boyd is 2A.

BBS went 11-1 in 1996.

And shocking that a team Boyd beat would play the recruiting card. Lulz.

Which shows how illogical it is for Basin to play Boyd in the regular season? Basin is a small school and plays other small schools during the year with the exception of Boyd.

Boyd isn't a small school? Huh?

SGM may come deny it as well but I certainly will jump in and deny the recruiting garbage. That '96 team that went 11-1 and lost to BGA in the playoffs (pre-Divisional splitting) didn't have anyone on the team that could be remotely accused of having been recruited. QB, HB, FB, WR, TE, and most of the OL had been there since elementary. Trust me, when those kids were in elementary (in the late 80's) Boyd was in no financial position to be recruiting 8 and 9 year olds for future football success.

I would love to hear the examples of recruiting impropriety you have at Boyd. I've been away for a few years and may not know all the details but I challenge you to give one example.

Boyd isn't perfect but the recruiting argument is silly. Don't want to make this a racial deal but if Boyd was recruiting heavily for football there would be more than 1 or 2 African-American players on the team each year.

Wow, I can't believe you went there.

Basin is a much smaller school than Boyd and plays schools that are smaller than Boyd during the regular season.

i played for polk county a few years back and i have always noticed basin always had the easy schedules. the only tough teams they ever played were south pittsburgh and boyd and boyd is not as tough now as they were then. granted basin has had an outstanding year but my wildcats would wipe the floor with them. oh well, both of their seasons are done.
