Just heard that Corey Campbell has just left school and will not return? Have I missed some news bulletin? What is going on with this? Anyone know?

I missed the "insider post". Was just shocked to hear it...I think it is a big loss for us.

This is the info, its in the "inside info" thread on this page.

I think i might start making a post every now and then and let you know some inside information from the players point of view.......

1) Looks like one of our young promising db's may be on their way out or may be in serious trouble with the team. Don't be surprised if you hear a report on this in the next few days.

Would anyone really consider Campbell "promising?"

Its a little bit of a stretch I admit. But its well-timed with the insider info post.

In the back of my mind, I always thought that Corey would rebound and do great things at Tennessee. Good luck to him.

I think most people thought that after his Freshman year.

Yep, he got off to a pretty good start and then just fizzled out.

Tennessean.com reporting.

yep.

http://www.tennessean.com/apps/pbcs.dll/ar...TS0601/60228016

Head coach Phillip Fulmer announced Tuesday that defensive back Corey Campbell is leaving the Tennessee football team. The Spring, Texas, native lettered three years for the Vols and will have one season of eligibility remaining.

As a junior in 2005, Campbell played in nine games and had one interception and one fumble recovery to go with three tackles. He intercepted seven passes in his three-year Tennessee career -- two in 2003 en route to consensus Freshman All-SEC honors and four during his sophomore campaign.

I think Campbell was always in Fulmer's doghouse....off the field issues and in the classroom. Also, Chavis has been disappointed in Campbells run support when his in at safety.

Should UT ever recruit another player out of Texas again?

I'm sure some have sucessfully been thur our program, but most Texans seem to quit, get kicked off the squad or recant their committment.

Think about it...

Not really. Campbell never got better after his freshman year. He didnt start but a few games in 2004 and was basically a ghost in 2005. Not a huige loss. Just another scholarship for next season.

Tennessee needs all the help we can get, especially in out secondary. Thats big loss even if its only for loss of depth. I then he could make a comeback and be a great player. Anyone know why he left, or was kicked off and what he did. He will not be able to transfer since he only has one year or elligiability left.

well actually he shouldn't really even be a loss when considering depth either since we have some younger talent back there and he could transfer to a I-AA school without having to sit out a year

Chattanooga paper just said he wanted to have more playing time since it was his senior year. Slade said he would have pushed to start. That at least makes it seem like he wasn't given the boot for the shop lifting thing. I'll just say how do you miss something that basically wasn't there. :dunno:
