Cornerbacks

Will Turnage and Slaughter start at CB again Saturday if Hadden and Charles are available? I think they should. They looked better than any CB combo we’ve started all season.
I think they should. Even if you take away the interceptions they still played tight coverage and both had good games. Also wanna see Wesley Walker starting he plays hard

I’m fine with Hadden getting one the corner spots if he’s healthy over Turnage if that’s the move.

There is no way you can take Slaughter off the field with how’s he played the last three weeks.

To me, I think McDonald doesn’t make enough plays. I’d go Hadden/Turnage on the outside with Charles/Walker as the backup, then Slaughter as the starting STAR and McDonald backing him up.

UT may need them all. UK isn't as great at WR as some thought. However UGA isn't very good at WR either. UT should be able to man up on their WRs and commit everyone else to the run and TE's. It kind of helps that both Slaughter and Turnage are Star type DBs since UGA often only has one true WR on the field.

He's 5th on the team in tackles and has been the most consistent piece of the secondary.

Maybe it’s one of those “Because I don’t hear or see him a lot I don’t think he’s doing anything.” There’s nothing in terms of his play that should bench him, I just like Slaughter at the STAR spot

I was listening to an Athens reporter-type today on sports radio. Bowers has their longest reception AND their longest run. He's a matchup nightmare. I like our LBs, especially Banks, but I wonder if Slaughter is needed as safety this game to help with their TEs.

How would you scheme our defense for UGA?

McDonald was in on several PBUs in the last game

I think he looked the best anyone has at CB all year... and think of what might happen in his 2nd game! He's aggressive. He looks fast enough. And he appeared to learn on the fly in the UK game. I'd keep him there and let everyone else fight it out for the other positions around him.

Absolutely LOVED his instinct on that big hint. I don't really know what cued him to break but he timed that to absolute perfection.

I think the move to tighter coverage has been a coaching strategy. More confidence in DLine getting there now.
Honestly I think it was an argument... that Heupel finally won. Banks earlier seemed to keep wanting to go bend don't break. I think there was an incident when Heupel confronted him and told him to be more aggressive.

They promised aggressive at the beginning of the year. They're just recently delivering it. Aggression on D can cover a lot of mistakes and flaws.

Something has changed. Plus we are seeing many new faces in the secondary who are making plays.

Florida was ridiculous. LSU was very good coverage I thought. Daniels made some great throws and Tenn played soft up 30 in the 4th Qtr. They piled up a lot of yds after game was over. Young just made some great throws & they made some tough catches but I started to notice improvement.

I gotta be careful here because I really have faith in Hadden. Still. But I have watched him getting burned so many times, taking bad angles on tackles, trying to arm tackle, or simply getting trucked and run over by a receiver after a catch, that I hope our coaches use him wisely.

Not incidentally, does Martinez coach our DBs to never look back after the ball when it’s in the air? I have been screaming all season that our DBs seem to never look back. On his interception, Slaughter looked back.

Those who know more, please edify me.

Coaches coach look for the ball when the receiver looks but it’s not as easy running full speed as the world class athletes on message boards can do.

It takes some nerve too. Look at the wrong time and you lose a half-step or miss a receiver adjustment…then you’re screwed. Toughest job in football IMHO.
