Kentucky will soon have to give up on football just like their hated hardwood rival Kansas.

That is just a stunningly bad decision by their AD regarding the buy-outs. If I was on the Board of Trustees, I would demand the resignation of the AD for causing such damage to the school.

Mark Stoops isn't the problem I think.

I think the fundamental issue is the school is Kentucky and the ball used by the sport is not round.

I don't see any way to fix that for a long long time.

I think it most certainly is Stoops. Rich Brooks was able to take the team to 4 straight bowls and he was pretty much over the hill when he took the job. The problem is they followed him up with 2 duds. Joker Phillips should have never been given the HC job. And Stoops can't get out of his own way apparently. At least 2 of Stoops' teams should have gone bowling.

Saw this on Twitter, but I assume it's true.

If Kentucky were to replace Mark Stoops, It Would Cost $18 Million

The $18 million includes assistant salaries. That's a lot! Kentucky got itself into this predicament when it gave Stoops a big contract extension in 2014 after a 5-7 season.

Why Mark Stoops' Job is Safe for 2 More Years

So either Kentucky football is going to have a massive sinkhole in its funding after this year or it's going to have to keep Mark Stoops around for a bit longer.

I think they gave him the extension when he started the 2014 season 5-0 or 5-1, which was definitely a horrible knee-jerk reaction.

While I definitely agree with you on Philips I'm not convinced yet on Stoops. It doesn't matter though it's moot. Because if 18M is the correct there is no way in hell UK will fork that over. His contract will run out and then he will be shown the door.

If the Cats don't win this weekend will he be gone or will they wait until half season or end of season?

Replacing him now wouldn't make a lot of difference...They would be on the hook for his buyout and have to pay another head coach so that is some serious money leaving the football program...Might be best to just sweat it out for a couple of years and get rid of him when the buyout is much lower.

If they keep him until the buyout is palatable, the losing culture will become heavily ingrained in the program and recruiting will tank to death penalty levels. The next guy may start off on an even worse foot than Stoops.

When did the losing culture stop in UK football? They are a basketball school and will never be more.

It already has a losing culture...Has had for its entire existence..I mean if they wanted to dump him and pump some energy into the program again throw everything you have at Lane kiffin and let him try and build them a winner...Plus on the bright side, Wouldn't it be fun to beat his butt every year? lol
