Costs climb again for California's high-speed rail project

There are some really bad cost estimators out there.

The cost to build California's ambitious but long delayed high-speed rail line has once again risen, with rail officials now estimating it could take up to $105 billion to finish the line from San Francisco to Los Angeles.

The project's price tag has steadily risen since voters first approved nearly $10 billion in bond money for it in 2008, when the total cost was pegged at $40 billion.

More like the politics only allowed what they wanted to be priced or made public. And the government pork paid off who knows how many special interest groups with this money

Americans focus on various bogus or secondary issues in our new cold war with China, however our complete inability to build futuristic infrastructure necessary to compete in future without bankrupting ourselves really will be our achilles hill. Completely avoidable, yet no political will to do what is necessary.

Same ol' same ol'.

Bid government contract.
Start work.
"Run out of money" due to "costs"
Go back for more money from the government.
Approved. (It's guaranteed to be so)

Repeat as often as desired.

And you have conservatives on this board that insist politicians must have "experience ". That experience keeps crap like this going.

But somehow, Europe and Japan manage to string these things everywhere just like Christmas lights. What’s up?
