Saban: I'm not motivated to coach in NFL - ESPN Video

In the thread about why we shouldn't be rooting for Bama in the NC game, I agreed that them getting the NC again, makes our recruiting efforts all the more difficult, since we go head to head with Bama for a lot of recruits.

Bucs to go after Saban? - ESPN Video

However, the silver lining is that it should compel NFL teams looking for a HC...and there is a LOT of them this year...to go hard after Saban. People might scoff at that, but in both the Titans and the Bucs case, you already have your franchise QB in place and a lot of pieces in place to take the ball and run, so to speak.

If I am the Titan's ownership, I ask what his price is. The main reason it makes a lot of sense for that organization is...the guy is only a few hours down I-65. You hire him and you instantly add tons of Bamer fans to your current fanbase, and would guarantee that your stadium is no longer empty for the next few years...despite the record.

As to how this pertains to UT football...it would be HUGE!!! Imagine Bamer trying to replace Saban this late in the game. Sure some coaches would be glad to get the offer, but many of the choices they would otherwise consider, are off the board, now.

Kirby would have been a candidate. He's at UGA now. The fallout could net us one or two recruits we might not otherwise be able to get, and the path to the SEC Championship would certainly get a lot easier.

Nick SaTan is not going back to the NFL. He tried it and it did not fit his personality. You can't "coach" in the NFL and are relegated to tactician.

I'm anxious to beat the snot out of his teams. I want him to be there when it happens! I want to see him whip his boy, Lame Kitten. Bring on the tears!

In years past, I would have said the same thing. But, having eclipsed even the venerated Bear Bryant, I suspect Saban may finally be ready to crack....and go back. In that interview, they asked him if the prospect of going back was dead and buried or would he leave it open in the future. He hesitated a bit and said, "up to this point...I haven't."

What people forget is that Saban wasn't horrible. His Dolphins were somewhere in the middle of the pack, in the NFL. He wasn't fired, either. In fact the Dolphins ownership really wanted him to stay. He also didn't have the benefit of having a franchise QB. It's extremely hard for any coach to win in the league without one.

Most years, teams that want to hire Saban, would be in a mess and still be in need of a franchise QB. In both cases...the Titans and Bucs, he has his franchise QB in place, and lot's of talent already in place. He just needs to plug a few holes in the roster and he's ready to win.

I also think he has built his reputation up to the point that NFL players would have to respect the guy. His brand is much more valuable now than when he first went to the Dolphins. The Titans are practically in his own backyard...just a few hours away.

While it would be nice to beat Bama with him as their HC, it really doesn't matter that much to me. Beating them regardless of who the HC is, is satisfying enough to me. :)

It's a different world when the players make as much or more than the coach.
(maybe no different at Bama )

The Bengals/Steelers game is a case study showing that NFL coaches can't control players behavior to the degree that they can at the college level. Saban is a control freak.

Also, I hope he stays. Would love a Neyland stadium beatdown. We are due. If Ole Miss can do it....

Why would saban leave? He can sit is his recliner (paid for in full by donors) for a year and the toothless bammer fanbase would cater to his every need. Not to mention how little effort it takes to get highly rated recruits to play there.

No. He failed in the NFL just like Pitrino and Spurrier failed. Not to mention Chip Kelly isn't lighting the world on fire either considering he's still in the NFL. All 3 of them are best suited for the college level so as bad as I hate Saban, he would be stupid to leave Bama.

I suspect he'll hang around and at least tie the Bear at six. Might take a while but its doable. Ya don't have to like the elephants but you gotta admit he has done a better job than even the tide expected

The fanbase argument is dumb; sorry. A lot of north Alabamian's who are NFL fans are Titans' fans to begin with. A lot of folks in Mobile are Saints fans and aren't all of a sudden going to switch their allegiance AND drive 7 hrs to Nashville on the weekends just because a coach came on board. The Bama bandwagon fans around middle TN are also already Titans' fans, so I don't know where this attraction of fans comes from.

Saban is the sole reason why recruiting in Bama is so easy.

1.) How does this scenario work in your mind? Do you actually think there is an owner out there thinking "you know I would hire that Saban fellow if he had just one more NCAA title on his resume"
2.) he will never leave Bama
