Could someone please tell our players that we're not a 3-point shooting team ??!?!!??

I mean seriously, we're not even in the top 100 teams in the nation in 3-point % and we're hauling up 3's all game like we're good at it. Except we're 5 of 19 right now, so our awful 31% 3-point shooting coming into this game is going to go down now.

There's plenty of stuff we're good at. Transition basketball, offensive rebounding, letting Tyler Smith play one-on-one. SO why do we run down the floor and chuck up NBA 3's with 29 seconds left on the shot clock and eliminate any offensive rebounds? The best one was JP Prince's 3 from the corner that hit the SIDE of the freakin backboard? Are you kidding me? I'm pretty sure Prince hasn't made a 3-point shot since his junior year in high school. :furious3:

And while I'm ranting, do we have a single player besides Tabb or Chism that play defense AT ALL?
I mean, do any of our players even understand the concept of switching off on ball screens? Our defense is non-existant. :banghead2:

It does seem like they start making more late in games that they're too far behind for it to really make a difference...

This is something I've been surprised with. Our defensive IQ is really low, but I think a lot of it comes from players like Williams who haven't been doing it long enough to understand all the help. The number of times he was out of position to contest a shot off a switch would have to be counted on both hands. I think we're just going to have to go through the growing pains of a team learning Bruce's defense, and maybe their inability to do so.

That may be part of it, but then there are players like Prince, Hopson, & even Tyler Smith that I think are just plain LAZY on the defensive end.

With Tyler it's hard for me to tell. I think he is the unfortunate benefactor of players missing assignments on switches. Prince plays in spurts of defense, but for the most part seems pretty lazy (although I thought his defense was pretty decent today). Hopson is one of our freshman so he falls under the learning curve.

There's no learning curve for giving effort on D. We stood around and watched.

Yea I dont know how many times I heard one of the announcers say that the UT defence just stood there and watched a player drive to the basket for an easy lay up.

Anyone else here the announcers questioning Pearl's decision to stay in man when Kansas was scoring at will? They did better in the 3-2.

Lofton set the bar too high and now these guys think the answer lies beyond the arc.

Playing D requires heart.....I just don't see that in this group, and you cannot magically turn that around. I think this team will struggle all year and recuriting will fix this situation. A lot of folks on here trashed Bradshaw....but he saved the day numerous times with his heart, fighting for the loose ball or going after a rebound. Its laughable watching the defensive effort by this team.

No - they hit several threes after a few minutes of the 3-2 when we started catching up. Then when we went back to it in the 2nd half they quickly hit a few more threes. We were doomed either way. We were running a pretty crappy 3-2 and Morningstar and the other white guard (forgot his name) were eating us up in the right corners.

We're definitely a 3 point shooing team, we just don't make any. I'd say we're not a three point making team without the sense to stop shooting them. Oddly, this team has the athletes to get to the hole and doesn't drive at all.
