Recruiting rankings don't amount to much at this point in the year. I recall Fulmer routinely was behind other SEC teams, and with a strong finish, we'd have a Top 5-10 class. You also have to look at our current class. Horrible in comparison the rest of the SEC. Even before we played Florida, where we had all kinds of Mojo. Why then? Not because Dooley doesn't know how to recruit, but most blue chip prospects have been taking a "wait and see" approach.
Derrick Green (5* RB who has us in his top 3) said this specifically. There were/are a number of WR recruits leaning toward us, but unwilling to commit because they knew the Coaching situation was fluid. Same thing with Strong/Louisville. Halfway into the season, they are undefeated and coaching rumors are already swirling, saying he's a top target. Of course Louisville prospects are going to sit tight and see how it all shakes out.
