From a aTm message board and the Atlanta Journal Constitution:

Atlanta Journal Constitution report on SEC Meeting:

The only potential barrier to an overwhelmingly favorable vote by SEC Presidents....the sticky problem of who to invite as a 14th Member. One insider suggests Louisville would present the fewest obstacles, provided UK does not object.

Interesting...

From a basketball and financial point of view, I could understand. But football and tv marketing, NO.

Lord No. I hope not. If they are going small market like that, WVU would make the most since.

I have heard that there is a long-standing pact between Florida, South Carolina, and Kentucky that they will not allow Louisville, Clemson, Miami, or FL State into the sec. For example, if Clemson is wanting in- Kentucky, Florida, and South Carolina would all vote no, preventing it from happening.

Bring em. I don't care about market shares and all that mess. Will make for some good basketball too.

Scared of the competition imo.

Don't know if this has been tossed out yet...but this is what I would like to see if we expand.

SEC East
Florida
Georgia
Kentucky
NC State
South Carolina
Tennessee
Vanderbilt
Virginia Tech
SEC West
Alabama
Arkansas
Auburn
LSU
Missouri
Miss ST
Ole Miss
Texas A&M
Look at a map, this makes the most sense.
Gets you into every state south of the Mason Dixon line and East of Texas.
Also doesn't get you into any true Union States

Not sure WHY people have a boner for Virginia Tech....Seriously?...What exactly is the appeal?....They have had a nice run in two weak conferences but as soon as they go up against anyone of caliber they get popped....They would end up on Kentucky's level in the SEC minus the good basketball teams...Decent yeah but really what does everyone see in them??...I'd rather have WVU anyday of the week or even Virginia for that matter over VT.

I'd rather take West Virginia than Missouri (strictly competitive not considering the markets, which they will lol) but VTech and NC State are long shots. I could maybe see NCState but roadtrips to Morgantown and Blacksburg would be amazing every couple of years.

Might want to check your stats. Techs football program is twice as good as UVA (Vandy) and WVU (Ole Miss). Hokies would be on the same level as USC before Lattimore. Their bball program has never finished below 4th in the ACC. Its a decent program.

Disagree. Frarnk Beamer is a great coach and the Hoakie tradition / atmosphere resembles typical SEC games. Always loud and fun there. I agree with WVU and think they are a lot alike Tech. I know Tech gets all those 10 win season by beating up the mighty ACC but their OOC record isn't terrible or anything.

This is as much about TV markets as competiveness. VT has a far bigger market than WVU. And there's no way UVA would leave the ACC.

No matter who gets added to the SEC, they're going to bring more than South Cackalacky did in 1992.

The atmosphere at the 4 or 5 Tech games I've been to is not even comparable to any SEC game I've been to, not even Vandy.

They're passionate, but they're not southern passionate.

Even with that, they'd be a solid fit for the conference, and a heated Tennessee-Tech rivalry would be almost instant.
