Moeller basketball forward Ryan Childress has been granted his release from the national letter of intent he signed with Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Childress is seeking a new school because Bruce Pearl, the former coach at UWM, resigned to become coach at Tennessee. Childress initially affirmed his commitment to new coach Rob Jeter, then changed his mind.

"When Bruce Pearl left, that was a big part of his decision," Moeller coach Carl Kremer said. "He likes the new coach and he still hasn't ruled them out, but he's opened up his recruiting again."

Kremer said Kent State and Richmond are on Childress' list of schools to visit, with more than a dozen schools already offering him a scholarship.

The 6-foot-8 Childress averaged 15.6 points and 8.8 rebounds last season. He was honorable mention all-state and an Enquirer first-teamer. Moeller reached the Division I state Final Four.

Interesting. He could end up a Vol. I don't know much about him, but he obviously likes Pearl. Honestly, I would settle for any kind of recruit right now.

Bruce is looking at Mo Thomas out of Philly as well. Mo has similar stats as Childress. Kind of ironic if Childress gets a 'ship. UMW releases Childress but Pearl doesn't release Smith. BTW, I agree with not releasing Smith.
