Maybe this has been discussed before... but Tennessee is being given almost no chance to win this game. Similar circumstances in the last have lead to some of our greatest wins in recent history:

  • Florida - 2001; Florida ranked #2, Tennessee had not won at the swamp in many games and 30 years, we were ~18 point underdogs. We know what happened, no SEC or national championship for Florida, and Spurrier walked out of the swamp a loser in his last game there as Florida HBC.
  • Miami - 2003; Miami had the nation's longest home winning streak, Tennessee was a ~10-13 point underdog and given very little chance to win. What happened? We ended the nation's longest home winning streak in a gutty defensive struggle.
  • Georgia - 2004; Georgia was undefeated and ranked #3 in the country and picked to win the SEC by many. Tennessee came in after losing big at home the week before. No one gave the VOLS a chance to win, but we win did, stomping a hobnail boot in the dawg's nose.
  • LSU - 2005; While we weren't huge underdogs in this game, we faced an extremely hostile environment being the first home game for LSU after the hurricanes. After giving up 3 quick TDs in the first half, we overcame the deficit and won the game.
On paper, we don't match up well in this game, but I see this as a great opportunity for the VOLS. We have the talent, we have the desire, but no one believes in us.

This is a great chance for a win to further the tradition of the VOLS success when we're against all odds.

We always play better as the underdog. Hi OWB.

We wouldn't keep saying it if it wasn't true. :)

I've been actively following the VOLS for quite a while now, and in my opinion, there are 3 things you can count on from Tennessee:
  • We'll give up 3rd and long
  • We won't cover a big line at home
  • We play better when no one believes in us

No arguement on any of those points, but I would rather be favored (it would be a reflection of better previous results) and the underdog thing is just a jab at some of the other mods.

With UT's starting QB on the bench and starting RB out for the first half?

No.

I'm with oklavol... I'd feel a lot better about things if #10 was behind center.

I agree with you, brother, especially after something happened this afternoon. I believe that one is just the warm up.

No.

Because Arian Foster has been such a world beater? Coker is much more dynamic and has the game breaking potential Foster lacks.

Crompton has some experience against one of the best defenses in the country (which Ark is not). The key will be how he responds to the hostile environment mentally.

Not saying I'm not nervous, but I don't think we're giving ourselves enough credit with his matchup tonight.

What Georgia did to Auburn is a bigger shock than anything Tennessee could do to Arkansas tonight, I believe. That was unreal.

We have to stop the run and run it ourselves, and this ain't Memphis. I think Crompton will compete and our only chance is if our WR's have career games. I think it will be closer than people think.

I agree with you, Coker is much better then Foster.

Unfortunately, Coker is coming back from injury and his play will be limited. Another reason why I think Arkansas is positioned to beat UT.

I am somewhat worried about Coker's effectiveness given the circumstances, but I think that if we rush for 100 yards - and limit Ark to 150-200 - we win the game, barring a big deficit in the turnover margin. We don't need our RBs to have an outstanding game to win, we just need them to be servicable and not lose the game for us.
