During his interview yesterday on gameday Jones said " The circumstances are not good as far as I am concerned." I have not been impressed with Tony Jones and have been quiet critical of him through his first three games acting as the head coach. Today I took a step back and started to actually contemplate the situation that Jones was put in and before I share my answers I want to ask you the same questions I have been asking myself.

A) If it was me/you would I have took the challenge knowing the circumstance and situation I was putting myself in?

B) My goal is to one day be a head basketball coach, is this an opportunity that is going to help or hurt the chances of that?

C) Even though I will receive much of the criticism/praise this team earns during the next 8 games, will I deserve it?

D) By taking this task am I putting myself in a situation that is possible to have a positive outcome?

I don't know if I could do it. Watching the Vols with and without Bruce Pearl you can definitely see a difference. Coach Pearl has the ability to get the best effort out of his entire team, that is why Tennessee can go so deep on the bench. During the first half of the Vandy game we looked lost, like we didn't care. It improved over the second half but I think it was more due to the players than Coach Jones. For someone who I'd imagine wants to be a head coach one day he isn't putting on a great show of his abilities. Although I will say it's a bad situation all the way around. It's not his team and everyone knows it. It's Coach Pearls team and there is definitely a difference when he's on the sidelines.

Considering I have very little to no knowledge of basketball, yes I could. It puts me on par with the coaching staff.

One might question how someone with little to no knowledge of basketball could know that others also have little to no knowledge of basketball.

It would be like me telling someone speaking Russian that I can tell they can't speak it well.

I just got my lab results back. Turns out that there is a 99.97 % chance that I am not Tony Jones.

Here is my point guys. As much as I found myself cussing and criticizing him the past three games I came to the realization that Tony Jones has been put in a situation where he can't win. Ultimately Jones is an eight game poster child for the program. He does not create or implement the game plan. The progress and development of this team was not by his doing. Tony Jones is simply a manager. He has to oversee that the team follows the instruction and gameplan given to him and the team by coach Bruce Pearl.

Don't get me wrong Jones does have some impact on the game, but it is very little. If the team plays poorly it is ultimately a reflection of BP but Jones is there to take it. If the team plays well, same deal. I don't know that anybody would want to be put in the position that Jones has been put in and if it wasn't for the relationship that Jones and Pearl have I'm not convinced he would have. Tony Jones has stepped into it with open arms and hasn't *****ed about it once, for that I respect and support him the remainder of his head coaching term.

I could not pull off a purple suit, so therefore I guess not.

As far as managing end of game situations, I could do no worse.

really? You must think pretty highly of yourself. Sounds like something my 13 yr old would say.

You committed the unpardonable sin. Can't question a coach or their decisions. your true fan card is in the process of being revoked.

You're welcome to look elsewhere. Although your only options are UK, UNC and Duke. We can't have people who think critically around these parts.
