A woke Ohio college has continued to refuse to pay a $33 million defamation settlement to a family-run bakery it tried to destroy after falsely accusing it of racism.

Oberlin College was ordered by Ohio's state appeals court to pay Gibson's Bakery the sum on April 1, but continues to contest the payout, and says it is considering its options.

Not siding with anybody here, but Daily Franklin's article fails to mention that the school may still have another appeal left.

Family bakery at center of Oberlin College race row Faces Ruin as it continues to be Boycotted by Woke students for calling police on three black student shoplifters

A 137 year-old family bakery faces ruin after a woke college falsely accused it of racism - then refused to pay a $33m defamation award ordered by a court.

Gibson's Bakery in Oberlin, Ohio, has slashed its staff from 12 to four after the 2016 incident that saw Oberlin College students - and senior staff members - brand the family business racist.

They did so after Gibson's called the cops on three black shoplifters who stole wine and attacked a staff member, and who were later convicted. When DailyMail.com visited the bakery on Tuesday morning, it was quiet, with staff members there still too distressed by the ordeal to speak.

The Gibsons suffered horrific stress as a result of Oberlin's lies and involvement in protests as well as boycotts, which culminated in the college and its former dean of students Meredith Raimondo being ordered to pay out $44 million for defamation in 2019.

That was later reduced to $33 million, but Oberlin has arrogantly declared that it still won't pay out after losing a state court appear earlier this month. It has also refused to apologize, despite multiple college staff and numerous resources being deployed for the protests and boycotts. Meanwhile, Raimondo has landed on her feet with a cozy new college job in Georgia despite her appalling behavior.

The saga inflicted by college has dragged on for so long that two senior members of the Gibson family died with a stain on their reputation, while waiting for the cash they're legally entitled to.

How Woke Oberlin Bullies Prospered despite driving bakery to brink with Racism Lies: Diversity Director Now Has Well Paid Job Works at Brown after Intimidating Witnesses Outside Bakery - while comms boss received promotion after backing angry mob

  • Two Oberlin College administrators who aided in the smear campaign against Gibson's Bakery continue to have successful careers
  • Julio Reyes, who intimidated witnesses during a bakery protest in November 2019, now holds a six-figure job at ivy league Brown University
Two senior academics who conspired with Oberlin College in its efforts to destroy a family-run bakery over false racism claims have both gone on to success, DailyMail.com can reveal.

Then-Latinx Student Life Coordinator Julio Reyes intimidated witnesses during a bakery protest in November 2016 and tried to prevent them from taking photos to document the angry mob of students, courtroom testimony revealed.

Reyes, a Brown University alum, now serves as the ivy league school's Program Director for the Undocumented, First-Generation College, and Low-Income Student Center, earning at least $107,000 annually, per Glassdoor salary reports.

And Ben Jones, who wrote numerous foul-mouthed emails backing the angry mob and accusing the Gibson family of being 'idiots' who were ‘totally blind to their own assumptions,' was promoted by Oberlin last year.

He has gone from being head of the college communications office to the school's first-ever Assistant Vice President of Admissions Communications.

Witnesses testified that Reyes had a stack of defamatory flyers encouraging students to boycott Gibson's and was distributing them at the protest.

Students and faculty, led by former dean of students Meredith Raimondo, launched a smear campaign against Gibson's Bakery in Oberlin, Ohio, after bakery workers called the cops on three black shoplifters - who were later convicted - for stealing wine and attacking a staff member in November 2016.

The college and Raimondo were found guilty of libel in November 2019, but have refused to pay the $33m defamation award. Earlier this month, Ohio's appeals court ruled that they must do so, with Oberlin bosses saying they're continuing to review their options.

Despite the scandal, Raimondo now occupies a cozy position as vice president of student affairs at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta.

But she wasn't the only staff member who helped falsely brand the 137 year-old bakery as a racist establishment and promote a student-led boycott and protests.

Former Dean of Students and Vice President Meredith Raimondo stoked protests against Gibson's Bakery following the shoplifting incident, even though the claims were found to be totally false. She has since been blamed for much of the behavior that has seen Oberlin ordered to pay $35 million for defamation, with Raimondo since moving to a college in Atlanta

Former Oberlin College security director Rick McDaniel testified during the college's defamation trial that Reyes, who reported to Raimondo at the time, assembled with protesters to help slam Gibson's Bakery as a racist establishment.

Woke Oberlin College is hit with FOUR MILLION DOLLARS in Interest Charges for dragging its heels in paying $36m defamation damages to family-run bakery over false racism claims

  • Oberlin College has been hit with $4 million in interest fees for refusing to pay the $36 million it owes to a family-run bakery
A woke Ohio college now faces paying $4 million in interest on top of $36 million in damages to a family-run bakery it almost destroyed with false racism allegations.

Oberlin College was last month told it must pay the additional fee - equivalent to around $4,000-a-day for each of the 1,000 days it has refused to pony up - to Gibson's Bakery, The Chronicle reported.

Oberlin College led by one of its disgraced ex-deans, Meredith Raimondo, lied that the bakery's staff had racially-profiled three black students in 2016, despite the trio later admitting shoplifting.

That sparked a boycott and protests - led by a bullhorn-waving Raimondo - that almost destroyed Gibson's, who successfully won a defamation payout in 2019.

But Oberlin has refused to pay up, and asked for another stay in paying the Gibsons what they're owed because of a pending appeal against the ruling against them.

That appeal is set to be heard by the Ohio Supreme Court, after two lower courts rejected Oberlin's attempts to slither out of paying the Gibsons.

Ohio Supreme Court Rules Oberlin College Doesn’t Have To Pay Bakery It’s Nearly Bankrupted While Appealing $36 Million Verdict

The Ohio Supreme Court ruled on Tuesday that Oberlin College doesn’t have to pay the $36 million it was ordered to pay Gibson’s Bakery for defamation, at least while the college continues to appeal the earlier verdict.

The ruling could mean the end of Gibson’s Bakery, a family-owned bakery that has operated in Oberlin, Ohio, since 1885. Oberlin was found to have defamed the bakery when the school supported and encouraged students falsely claiming the bakery was racist because the owner stopped some non-white students from shoplifting.

But an unsigned decision from the Ohio Supreme Court will keep Oberlin from paying until the court considers the college’s latest appeal, and it is unclear when the court will take up the case, Cleveland.com reported. In April, an appeals court upheld the verdict against Oberlin, The Daily Wire reported, but Oberlin is appealing the decision to the state’s highest court, in what appears to many to be part of an ongoing effort to stall the case in order to avoid paying.

Ohio bakery's $25M payment from Oberlin College survives court decision

Ohio's Supreme Court will not hear an appeal of a $25 million judgment against Oberlin College in a lawsuit brought by owners of Gibson’s Bakery, who claimed they were libeled and wrongly accused of being racist by the school after a shoplifting incident.

Justices on the state Supreme Court denied the school's appeal without explanation, according to court records. The decision comes after an appeals court upheld a $25 million judgment for the bakery, which succeeded in its claim it was wrongfully labeled racist.

A representative with Plakas Mannos, the law firm representing the bakery, lauded the Ohio Supreme Court's decision in a statement and told the Washington Examiner the school "presumed that they could bring the Gibsons to their knees."

Woke Oberlin College FINALLY pays out $25M to Ohio family bakery it tried to destroy with false accusations of racism in 2017: Father and son owners have since died

Oberlin College has completed paying out a $25million judgment to an Ohio bakery that won a libel lawsuit against the school after a shoplifting incident involving three black students.

The store's owners, Allyn Gibson and his son, David Gibson, sued Oberlin College in 2017, claiming they had been libeled by the school and their business had been harmed following protests over the shoplifting.

Both died before the settlement was reached and had said at the time that the claims had pushed the store to the brink of closure.

A Lorain County jury in 2019 awarded the Gibsons $44 million in damages, which a judge later reduced to $25 million.

Allyn Gibson (right) and David Gibson (left) fought for their family's legacy until their deaths. David Gibson died in November 2019 at age 65 and Allyn, 93, died in February 2022

The Ohio Supreme Court in August said it would not take up an appeal of the judgment.

All of the money has now been paid, Brandon McHugh, attorney for the Gibsons, told WKYC-TV in Cleveland on Thursday.

In addition to the $25 million judgement, the school paid more than $11 million in attorney fees and interest.
