If I were in her shoes, I would show the US Selection Committee the same respect and consideration that they showed her. Thanks, but I have other plans that week.
If she went as an alternate, I can imagine Geno playing her behind Stewart because, you know, Breanna is a better "fit" with the "team chemistry". And Linkster would be here posting 50 posts a day about how it wouldn't be Geno's call.
I'd like to think she respects the flag more than to be spiteful. Don't like what happened? Show why it was so stupid in the first place. Go out there and outperform all the starters as the first person off the bench. Show the world that Geno and the selection committee was dumb. And most of all, take pride in being an American who has an incredibly special opportunity to represent the Stars and Stripes with dignity.
She has represented the flag twice already and helped the USA bring home the gold medal. Nothing spiteful about passing on the opportunity to be an alternate should it arise. At the end of the day, Geno is still the coach. Even if she is an alternate, I doubt he will play her over his pets. Even without CP, the US team is stacked and more than good enough to win the gold. The trip would be a waste of her time, and disrespectful to her previous contributions to the US National Team as well as her merit as a player.
You just said that it's not spiteful, then wrote a spiteful paragraph about being spiteful
Hoping the US team loses is being spiteful. There's nothing spiteful about choosing not to be a lapdog.
Candace has paid her dues to the US National Team. She's earned the right to decide what's best for her without weak guilt trips.
the opportunity for recompense arising for Team USA and then telling them no because they should have put her on the roster in the first place is just being spiteful and petty and I'd hope that Candace Parker is above that
CP is one of the greatest players of all time and no UCONN fan would dispute that. And the die hard UCONN fan knows the name ans stories of every UT player unlike the majority of fans from any other school. Good or bad we have a history that makes us a family, I'll be dysfunctional but family never less. At least until those of us that have been following the game for the last 25-30 years are no longer around.
