Allright here's the deal. Am i the only Big Orange fan that thinks this year will be great. For some reason i think we might win the SEC East again this year and conted for the SEC Championship. Now before you blow me off listen to my proof. Cut's back. That in of it itselft is a major boost. We never had a bad offense when Cut was calling the plays. I think Cut will actually help Ainge out A LOT and i think he'll surpass his freshmen year as an impact player. Our defense although we lost a few major guys, is still a power. Chavis has done a great job with em and i'm glad he's still around. Also, look at the powers in the East. UGA lost a lot of seniors, plus i dont think theyre gonna be much of a contender. The gators are the gators. They'll contend but probably blow it late in the season. I think USC has a good chance of winning a lot of games, but i dont think spurrier has the base he needs in carolina to make a run at the east. Vandy....ok..n/m about vandy. Kentucky is just plain awful. So there ya go. I'm saying we lose 2 games this season and make a run for the SEC championship. :cross: Now am i crazy....or just optimistic?

I don't think you are crazy. I have been calling for a 10-win season as the benchmark of success for a few of months now. The only reagular season games that we "should" loose are Florida and LSU. Both of those games are at Neyland where there will hopefully be some enthusiastic crowds this year. We could get lucky and win either of those games but I'd be amazed if we win both of them. The wildcard game is definitely Cal to open the season. The good thing about Cal is that they probably will be just as unprepared for us as we are for them. Depending on the humidity, they might be playing a little out of their element as well. If Cal beats us and then goes on to win the PAC-10 outright then I can accept a 9-win season.

I think 8-9 wins is realistic. The Cal game will be interesting. I really don't know what to expect there. LSU will be wanting revenge. Then of course we have Fla at home and at UGA. If we make it through those 4 games at least 2-2 we'll be ok. South Carolina is another one that could be tough.

Crazy. You obviously don't remember being shut out by Florida in '94. Cutcliffe is good, he's not a cure all.

I do, best seats I ever had as a student!

I also remember fans wanting to get rid of Cut when he was OC the first time. He was never as popular in TN as he is now. I just don't understand why everyone is so happy he's back. I have never been overly impressed because he was surrounded by tremendous talent @ UT and UM (especially @ QB). Anyone who would like to see UT's offensive philosophy changed can't be very excited he's returned.

This is all so funny to me. I bet anything that when we come out and have a great year (which I truly believe we will) we will hear how CPF should have been fired and Cut should have been hired as HC. If we have just an average year Cut will be called a no talent hack who was just "lucky" and surrounded by talent.
Some fans are never happy.

Why would anyone call for Fulmer's firing if we have a "great" year?

Do you not read ths board regular. I know you do. His comment was just satirical humor of the ebb and flow of alot of fans on here. Got a small chuckle from it myself.

I'm not saying that he is "a no talent hack surrounded by talent". I was around the whole time Cut was OC, most as a student. I heard the people talking about how they were not happy w/ him. I am just confused as to how he is suddenly the savior and will rectify all UT's offensive issues. I do think he has the ability but still wonder if it was the correct move.

I took it as more of the typical "Why is everyone so tough on poor Chubby?" type comment.

Yeah, could have been that too. But, after some time on this board and seeing it explode of late, and a dilution of "wisdom", I'm more inclined to tilt my head at alot of exceprts than I get in wad over coaching staff. Don't really have any negs about CPF, RS or any of them. Tunnel vision blocks a really nice panoramic view of a successful program.

The optomistic Vol fans (such as myself, and you Tuba) aren't the only ones that believe the Vols will have a big comeback this year. Poor cfn.com put us in their pre-preseason top 10, calling for 10 wins and a SECCG to be a realistic goal. Call us all crazy if you want, there are a lot of us.

Would that be one of the media outlets that had us in the top 5 last preseason?

I know you don't think the football team is worth a crap Hatvol, that's fine. Stick to basketball. Things go wrong from time to time... if we knew for sure what would happen before the season started there'd be no reason to play. It is all speculation until they get on the field. Give it a rest.

Such hostility. You should really relax. Stress will kill you.

It was sarcasm. But like all good sarcasm there is a bit of truth to it. There are some who will gripe about CPF no matter what. Just like the Sanders issue. How many cried that he needed to be fired and when he was how many called him the scape goat? Some are never happy. And if you recognize that the team did underachieve but accept it as an aboration and not the norm your a CPF sheep or your accused of being happy with a losing season.
But yes it was sarcasm.

:biggrin2: :p It is mid-term time... the VN messageboard does nothing but relax. I just thought I'd give you a shot. :D Don't take me so personally, you should know that by now... lord knows I've learned that about you.

I don't take anything personally. If one gets personally offended on message boards, they probably need intensive psychiatric help.

I'm sending over some guys to your house in white uniforms to bring you in, in a straight jacket for immediate hospitalization on the psych ward.

(Seriously, if our BB team could win the SEC East without a decent inside presence, It would not shock me to see the FB team contend for the East.)
