With the investigations of Charles Rangel and Maxine Waters some are asking if black lawmakers are held to a different standard than others.
There’s a “dual standard, one for most members and one for African-Americans,” said one member of the Congressional Black Caucus, speaking on condition of anonymity

“House Democrats are paying a price for OCE’s focus on black lawmakers,” added a Democratic insider close to House leaders. “But that doesn’t change the fact that voters are going to see two African-Americans on trial in the House while they see no action against white members with ethical problems.”

The racism charge, though, was rejected by Melanie Sloan, executive director of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, an ethics watchdog group, even as she acknowledged the current situation is bound to anger black lawmakers.

“There are ethics problems within the CBC,” she said. “They have to acknowledge that.”

It's not that they are innocent just being picked on because they are black. The committee has busted plenty of white politicians before and will bust more in the future. That they are now targeting two black politicians because they were caught not because of their skin color.

I am so freaking sick of the false claims of racism in this country. It really has become old, I am happy to see most people don't take these morons seriously.

Just do what white guy Nathan Deal, former Congressman from north GA now running for Governor, did - resign and the investigation completely disappears. But for these people, it is much more convenient to blame their own personal choices on some white racist conspiracy than the impartial rules that apply to ALL members of Congress.

Can we split the country yet? All the people that believe in holding people to a lower standard can take CA, NY, NE, NW and Michigan. All the people that don't give a crap about what you look like but only care about results can take the rest?

This is what bugs me about stories like this, there is still racism out there. Is it as prevalent as it was back in the 50s and 60 no, but it is still out there. Fools like this, that play the race card every time they get caught doing something wrong, make fighting actual racism harder.

Exactly and then they turn around and claim that they want racism to end. The truth is that racism/bias will never completely go away and the people who constantly pull "the race card" are those who perpetuate it.

I wonder if she realized what she said then would actually apply to her own actions? I noticed she mentions "double standards" and "what is good for the goose". I'm sure she could come up with a dozen or so 'differences' between her violations and Newt's.

what's really fun here is that the democrats have been in control of Congress since January, 2007. So, Waters is accusing her own caucus of being racist. According to lawgator, that's not possible because only white people, particularly tea party members and small government advocates can be racist.
